Best Cozumel Luxury Hotels

Mexico’s biggest island, Cozumel sits amid some of the most spectacular coral reefs in the Western hemisphere. Cozumel doesn’t have the truly luxurious hotels of Playa del Carmen, its mainland neighbor, but for travelers looking for an upscale stay, here are the top hotels on the island.

Cozumel Palace

Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico

The upscale Cozumel Palace is an oceanfront resort with direct access to Caribbean Sea. All 175 spacious rooms feature polished marble floors and large furnished terraces -- most directly overlooking the sea. Huge jetted spa tubs, free and fully stocked minibars, and marble-clad bathrooms with fluffy bathrobes are upscale touches. Upgraded Concierge level rooms include luxury extras such as premium-brand spirits, aromatherapy options, pillow menus, and L'Occidental bath products. Service is a real highlight with friendly staff providing excellent poolside attention and round-the-clock room service. Note that Cozumel Palace is located within walking distance of San Miguel's ferry port and nightlife, and the immediate area isn't particularly attractive.

Secrets Aura Cozumel

Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico

The adults-only Secrets Aura Cozumel is the most expansive upscale all-inclusive in Cozumel. Among its offerings are swimming pools with swim-up bars and waterslides, 11 restaurants and bars, wonderful spa, and a private sand beach. All of the 238 rooms are spacious suites with free Wi-Fi, free minibars (stocked daily with beer, water, soda, and snacks), coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, king-size beds, sitting areas, and furnished balconies or terraces. The best of suites are in the Preferred section of the hotel, while Standard Suites (the cheapest option) are a bit blah with beige tile floors and walls and wood furniture that looks like it's from the '80s. (Although Secrets has more features than Cozumel Palace, we gave that property the edge since its room quality is more consistent.) Room service is available 24 hours a day and staff will serve guests in their Suites, at the beach, and in the swim-up pools.

Fiesta Americana Cozumel All Inclusive

Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Fiesta Americana Cozumel All Inclusive is an intimate boutique hotel on the beach. Its 102 rooms have an artsy, eco-chic look, and are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and rainfall showers. They're much more contemporary than the rooms at Secrets, but they lack the coffeemakers and sitting areas found at that property. All rooms have lovely furnished balconies, some with ocean views or private pools. And while Secrets has a private white sandy beach with loungers and a pier, Fiesta's small beach consists of a boat dock with over-the-water beds, a trampoline, and direct access to a snorkel-friendly part of the sea. Two outdoor pools are great additions to the oceanfront location, but one is pretty dated. As an all-inclusive hotel, there are plenty of dining options, which include a buffet restaurant, four restaurants with Mexican and international cuisine, and coffee bar.
