Although this 1972-built property was one of the first hotels to be constructed in Chania, renovations in 2014 left Kriti Hotel with a crisp, modern design. Public spaces and rooms are well-maintained and immaculately clean, largely done in neutral tones with some splashes of color. The lobby has plush, comfy sofas with solid gray or pastel zigzag fabrics, plus communal tables and a mural of Greek symbols behind the reception desk. Rooms and the nondescript breakfast room follow a similar understated style, which can feel a bit bland, though is nonetheless contemporary. A decent-sized pool and lobby bar are available for guests, though most travelers tend to spend their days at the beach or exploring the town's many sights. Overall, this is a quiet and laid-back property that's well-situated for tourists. 

Kriti Hotel is situated on a street corner an the edge of central Chania, within view of the seafront. While the location is quiet, travelers are an easy five- to 15-minute walk from many of the town's top sights. Chania’s historic Old Venetian Harbour, with many local restaurants and shops, is just a 10-minute walk, while the charming old town is about a seven-minute stroll. Koum Kapi beach, a small sandy beach suitable for quick dips, is a five-minute walk east along the coast. The popular city of Rethymnon is about a 70-minute drive east. Chania International Airport is a 20-minute drive, while Heraklion airport is two hours away by car. The hotel doesn't have parking of its own, but free street parking is available by the property.

Rooms are modern and well-maintained, with clean-lined wood furniture, large muted black-and-white locally themed murals, and pops of color -- pale-green, yellow, orange, or brown -- in bed throws and drapes. Beds are comfy, and sufficient amenities consist of minibars, desks, flat-screen TV’s with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and electronic safes. Bathrobes and slippers are available on request. Most rooms have balconies, and some have distant sea views. Bathrooms are clean and modern, with tasteful neutral tiling, small showers or shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and Oliva toiletries. 

On the downside, Economy Rooms are downright tiny, and Standard Rooms are also a bit tight on space. Superior Rooms are more spacious, and all have balconies, many with sea views. Suites have a separate living areas with sofa beds, two balconies, and additional perks such as Nespresso machines, bathrobes, and slippers. Some have views over Chania, while others have sea views. 

The standout feature here is a decently sized outdoor pool that has a private feel thanks to high walls. The wooden deck is lined with cushioned loungers, a handful of umbrellas, and pool towels. All rates include a good quality free breakfast, which includes fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee, and a variety of cold and hot dishes such as omelets, sausage, and bacon. Breakfast can be taken in the room at no additional charge, and it's served until noon, allowing for leisurely mornings. Room service is available until midnight, emphasizing the hotel’s easy-going policy focused on maximizing guest comfort. Drinks and food like pizza can be ordered from the bright lobby bar. The hotel advertises a gym, but it's just a treadmill and weight machine. A handful of business features include a conference room with a capacity of 50 people, and business center with free printing facilities. Good, fast Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
