Jumeirah Mina A' Salam
Jumeirah Road

Part of the luxury Jumeirah chain, the 292-room Mina A' Salam is an opulent, Arabian-palace style hotel located in the exclusive confines of Dubai's Madinat Jumeirah resort. A 2015 total makeover gave rooms a genuinely palatial feel alongside suitably high-end amenities, though not all have balconies. Access to the resort's dozens of restaurants means diners are spoilt for choice -- though expect high prices -- while leisure and relaxation facilities include a world-class spa, numerous pools, and plenty for the little ones. As one would expect, room rates can be vertigo-inducing, and slightly larger entry-level rooms can be found for around half the price at the still seriously upscale and beachfront Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort

Howard Johnson by Wyndham Bur Dubai
Khalid Bin Al Waleed Rd, Bur Dubai

This mid-range hotel, located in western Bur Dubai, is an average pick for budget-conscious travelers and families. There is nothing quite outstanding about it, but rooms are clean and feature flat-screen TVs and minibars, and rates are affordable year-round. Nice perks include a rooftop pool, a small fitness center, and three restaurants. Just note that there are dozens of other hotels with similar rates nearby, so it may be worth comparing before booking.

Four Points By Sheraton Downtown Dubai
Mankhool Road, 4C Street, Bur Dubai

The upscale 250-room Four Points by Sheraton Downtown Dubai is centrally located, with warm and inviting rooms, a rooftop pool, a modern fitness center surrounded by windows, three restaurants, and free shuttle service to sights around Dubai. While the hotel doesn't lack for on-site conveniences (although the hotel's restaurants are at best mediocre, especially when compared with local choices), guests looking to stay closer to The Walk and Marina Beach may want to try the Hilton Dubai The Walk for similarly priced rooms and similar amenities, within a block of the Persian Gulf.

Le Meridien Fairway
Al Garhoud Bridge, Sheikh Rashid Road, 29; PO Box 36400

This 58-room airport hotel is a fairly nice, upper-middle-range version of the standard stopover hotel. Traditional room decor is a little out of date but the gym and pool are pleasing enough. And if the layover permits, a five-minute drive to the luxurious Le Meridien Dubai (open to all guests of Le Meridien Fairway) will dress up your stay quite a bit. Those willing to go up in price a little bit may prefer a stay in Le Meridien Duabi's stylish Royal Club Rooms. All in all, though, this is a good value for a short stay.

Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Lakes Towers
Cluster A,Building 2، Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster A – Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Amid Jumeirah Lakes' skyscrapers, the Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Lakes Towers is an upscale property with modern, but generic interiors. Though well-placed for nearby office complexes and the marina, the hotel is a little out-of-the-way for reaching Dubai's main attractions. The 357 rooms are large, and come with satellite flat-screen TVs, minibars, and Movenpick chocolates, which there's plenty more of during the daily Chocolate Hour. A restaurant serving international fare and a sensational breakfast accompanies a sports bar, plus there's a 24-hour coffee shop. The rooftop pool and terrace is sleek, and a spa and fitness center provide more wellness options. Meeting rooms cater to corporate guests, and free shuttles are handy for leisure travelers. The JA Ocean View Hotel is nearer the beach, but charges for parking.

Ramada by Wyndham Deira
Salahudin Road, Deira

This three-pearl property is a decent choice among many similar hotels in its bustling surroundings of Deira. Although it’s a considerable car ride from most tourist attractions and beaches, a metro stop and several malls are within easy walking distance. Standard Rooms are on the generic side and lack extras like minibars or mini-fridges, but they’re spacious. There have been complaints of unpleasant odors in some bathrooms and a tiny pool area, but Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, and on-site parking are all free and the Reem Al Bawadi Arabic restaurant is popular. Overall, Ramada Deira’s prices are hard to beat, but families who want a more traditional Dubai resort experience near beaches may prefer the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, JBR Dubai in Jumeirah.
