Bottom Line

The 308-room Hotel Dubrovnik Palace is a five-pearl cliffside hotel with dramatic sea views. This property offers a range of high-end amenities, from the beautiful outdoor pool to the Finnish sauna in the spa. The sleek lobby to the chic rooms with sea view balconies are utterly contemporary; rooms on higher floors are particularly stunning. There are a handful of dining and drinking options, with the buffet breakfast earning the best reviews from guests. This hotel also offers an indoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center, and an on-site art gallery. The remote Lapad Peninsula location may up the romance, but guests wanting to stay right in the Old Town should consider The Pucic Palace, a luxury boutique hotel with an elegant, Old-World atmosphere.

Scene

Luxurious, cliffside hotel hosting celebrities and royalty

From dining at the upscale restaurants to relaxing on spacious room balconies, dramatic views of the Adriatic Sea are available from just about every corner of the five-pearl Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. The massive hotel has a posh interior with white hallways, some rustic decor including driftwood and woven baskets, and over 1,000 works of art by Croatian artists. The hotel attracts an upscale clientele; former guests include John Malkovich, Nick Nolte, and members of the Saudi royal family. The indoor pool area has a relaxing vibe; in addition to the large pool, there are two whirlpools and windows offering panoramic sea views. Restaurants are modern with minimal decor so as not to detract from the amazing view, and one of the bars has a large outdoor terrace for enjoying the sea breeze. Stone walls and trees provide a backdrop to the outdoor pools, and steps lead down to a rock beach where guests can jump into the sea for swimming or snorkeling. Overall this contemporary property is peaceful and luxe, and draws couples, families, and business guests.

Location

Private cliffside location, but not within walking distance of Old Town

This cliffside hotel is located between the bay and a huge state park on Lapad Peninsula. There are many shops, restaurants, and cafes within walking distance on the promenade. However, guests will have to take a 10-minute car or bus ride to reach one of Dubrovnik's biggest draws, the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with preserved churches and fountains dating back to the 13th century. The Dubrovnik-Cilipi Airport is around a half-hour drive away. The location is full of sea views, and the property has a rock beach where swimming is possible, but no sandy shoreline.

Rooms

Chic, spacious rooms with sea view balconies

Rooms at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace are sleek with a modern white and gray color palette. Furniture is simple and sparse, creating a spacious and minimalistic effect, while light wood headboards look sharp against abstract black-and-gray panels behind the beds. Light tan carpets are contrasted by red or blue chairs with Scandinavian lines, and some rooms have couches set next to small coffee tables. All rooms have minibars, large, wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are especially modern and appealing, with stone tile floors and walls plus shower/tub combos, heated towel racks, and large vanities. Generous amenity kits in bathrooms include L’Occitane or other high-end toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers are available. All rooms have balconies offering sea views, but guests recommend requesting higher floors for unobstructed views.
