Newcomers are met warmly by staff who offer chilled coconut milk, followed by a traditional welcome ceremony that competes for the best in Fiji. Staff truly are a highlight at Nanuku and often go to great lengths to put on surprises and unique experiences; this is helped by the fact that guests are given a personal butler called their "Buddy". Hilly grounds consist of a thatched-roof reception and open-air hallway with gorgeous wood beams and pillars, sleek tile floors, and stones blending with surrounding gardens. Additionally, there's a long stretch of beach free from any resort neighbors and all units have beautiful ocean views.

Guests tend to start the day with a leisurely sit-down breakfast, followed by relaxing at the pool and beach, or visiting the clubhouse to see what kind of cultural activities and excursions are offered that day -- many that can be done privately with "Buddy". Nights consist of dinners accompanied by live Fijian music or at private romantic setups. A majority of guests are couples, but low-key families are also present, particularly because nanny service is included in the rate.

From Nadi International Airport, travelers can drive two and a half hours south to Nanuku, where there is free parking, or take a taxi. The hotel can also arrange a private driver in advance, while those with deeper pockets can request a charter plane to the resort's own landing strip. From the resort, guests can access Kula Eco Park in about an hour's drive. There are also golf courses, snorkeling and dive spots, as well as local markets and shops near Pacific Harbour -- about 10 minutes away by bus. There are several shops and restaurants within a short driving distance, but most guests tend to stay on-site for the duration of their stay.

The intimate resort has just fourteen units, all with stunning ocean views from private terraces and easy access to the beach. The stand-alone structures were built using quality Fijian stone and hardwoods, and have traditional thatched roofs. The design includes contemporary decor in neutral tones, plus vibrant wall hangings and fresh flowers displayed throughout. Though they differ in size and layout, all rooms come with luxury amenities such as free minibars and coffee, purified water, hi-tech entertainment systems, flip flops, bathrobes, Pure Fiji toiletries, yoga mats, and golf carts. Bathrooms are extra large with dual vanity sinks, jetted tubs, and separate walk-in showers. 

Villas additionally come with fully equipped kitchenettes and private outdoor pools -- though past guests report that the water is too cold. The two-bedroom Beachfront Villa comes with a covered yoga pavilion and outdoor shower, while the enormous two-bedroom Vunikau Penthouse often attracts celebrities. It comes with panoramic views from the wraparound deck, and is accented with an infinity pool facing Beqa Lagoon. 

This particular section of the Coral Coast offers a clean beach setting with calm waves. Since there are zero resort neighbors and so few guests at Nanuku, the beach stays free of crowds. Non-motorized water sports are free for guests, consisting of snorkel gear, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and catamaran sailing, while Jet Skis can be rented. Overlooking the ocean is a pretty infinity pool with cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas. There's also a hot tub tucked away by the beach. Before sunset each evening, the staff put on a traditional torch lighting ceremony in traditional garb; kids are encouraged to participate.  

The resort is close to Beqa passage, which is famous for its world-class snorkeling and diving, especially cage-free shark diving. Nanuku owns a private two-acre island in the Beqa Lagoon system of coral reefs, located 20 minutes away by boat; each Buddy can arrange private day trips and picnics to this deserted island. They can also help coordinate excursions such as hiking, whitewater rafting, and zip-lining, as well as cultural trips to nearby villages or shopping trips to the capital of Suva. 

Lomana Spa and Wellness Center has beautiful open-air treatment rooms for singles and couples, and technicians use local ingredients for massages, facials, and body treatments. There's also a modern fitness center with ample equipment, as well as access to a full-time personal trainer. Two free yoga classes -- one in the morning and afternoon -- are held daily by the pool. 

Kids are well taken care of by staff with different cultural programs for different age groups. Nanny service is also free. The resort can also provide strollers, car seats, high chairs, and cribs.

Guests at Nanuku are on an all-inclusive plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but alcohol incurs a fee. The main restaurant is Kanavata, an elegant open-air dining room facing the infinity pool and ocean beyond for beautiful views; flickering candles here in the evening add a romantic vibe. The regularly changing menu offers healthy choices as well as international favorites -- and items are highly customizable based on guest preferences. In fact, guests will likely interact with the chef during their stay. Private dinners can be arranged in a number of areas around the resort, including in rooms. Picnics on the private island can be prepared with items such as sandwiches, ceviche, and dessert. 

Next to the restaurant is the resort's lounge and bar, which gets the biggest crowd during happy hour when the band plays acoustic music. Guests can order innovative cocktails, as well as imported and local beers, and international wines. During the day, Wai Pool Bar is open for swim-up or poolside orders. 

Additionally, guests can take cooking classes and excursions to explore the local food scene, including fishing for prawns and a trip to Spice Farm to learn how vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom are cultivated and cured. There is also an opportunity to learn about kava's medicinal purposes and how it is grown.
