An arched stone doorway, wrought-iron window grates, and picturesque shutters on the Botticelli Hotel's beautiful facade point to its history. Built in the 16th century and recognized by the Supervision of Architectural Heritage, the building has gorgeous interior features, including vaulted ceilings and a kneeling window with a stone ledge and iron grating. The lobby is incredibly ornate, with floral and cherub ceiling motifs. But its marred by the overstuffed, grandmotherly floral couches. The yellow and navy dining room decor has the feel of a conference room, but it's also set under beautiful, vaulted ceilings. One of the hotel's best features is its attractive terrace, lined with flowers and vines and outfitted with charming bistro tables and chairs. Overall, this property has charming bones, but it lacks sophistication. 

The Botticelli Hotel is located in a lively area with shops and restaurants. It's a short walk to the San Lorenzo market, and the Duomo is under a five-minute walk away. The Santa Maria Novella train station can be reached in under 10 minutes on foot. And the airport is less than a half hour away by car or public transportation. Note: This is a popular tourist area; some rooms get street noise at various times throughout the day (and night). 

Alas, rooms at the Botticelli Hotel don't live up to the architectural flourishes found in the common spaces. Standard rooms have plain white walls, and hardwood floors or greenish wall-to-wall carpeting. Mint green bedspreads add some color to the space, but little else adorns the rooms. Wooden bureaus and desks, small flat-screen TVs, and minibars furnish the rooms. Blue-and-white tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and little shelf space. Superior Rooms include couches. Guests recommend requesting rooms in the back of the building to avoid street noise. And those looking for Wi-Fi will only find it in the common spaces (for a fee). 

On-site amenities include a small bar and a breakfast room where a free breakfast of hardboiled eggs, baked goods, cheeses, cold cuts, and juice is served. A beautiful, blooming terrace with terra-cotta floors, bistro tables and chairs, and flowering planters is arguably the hotel's star feature. There’s free Wi-Fi in public areas, and the hotel has a work station with one computer. Parking is available for a fee. Guests have noted the particularly friendly and helpful staff at this hotel, another compelling pro.
