Bottom Line

The Paris Hotel occupies a magnificent 17th-century palace with stunning period details, like elaborate frescoed ceilings,
stained glass windows, and stone fountains. Centrally located a few blocks from Florence's Duomo, it's within walking distance of many top sights. With its opulent decor
and Old World charm, it’s surprising that this isn't a luxury property, but an
affordable mid-range hotel. This grand palace is showing its age though, and some of the furniture and decor is dated. Its 67 rooms vary in size and ambiance, from the widely lavish
Presidential Room, to the bare-bones Basic Room. Amenities are limited, though the hotel does provide a free buffet breakfast served in a gorgeous dining room as well as free Wi-Fi. Travelers might also want to consider the Relais Villa Antea, another historic property located in a quiet neighborhood that offers slightly lower rates.

Scene

A step back in time into a 17th-century palace

Located on Via dei Banchi, a
narrow street dating back to the 14th-century, Paris Hotel offers
oodles of Old World charm and an atmospheric ambiance that will appeal to
lovers of art, architecture, and history. Occupying two grand 17th-century palaces, the property has many stunning details, including frescoed
ceilings, stained glass windows, stone fountains, original Florentine floor
tiles, and wide stone stairways with wrought-iron railings. The elaborately
painted ceiling of the magnificent dining room, where breakfast is served each
morning, is breathtaking, as is the stained glass ceiling above the staircase. The
ornate furniture, chandeliers, and tapestries decorating the public spaces add to the opulence, which might feel a bit over-the-top at
times. There's a charming hanging garden on the second floor terrace that offers scenic views over the city’s rooftops and the iconic Duomo. As expected, the Paris Hotel's romantic atmosphere
makes this a particularly popular place with couples.

Location

Central location a few blocks away from the Duomo

Located in the heart of historic Florence, the Paris
Hotel couldn’t be better situated for tourists wishing to explore the city on foot. It takes about three minutes to walk to the
Duomo, Florence’s largest cathedral and best-known landmark. And most of the city’s
popular tourist sights can be easily reached on foot, including the Uffizi Gallery,
Palazzo Vecchio, and Ponte Vecchio, which are all a 10-minute walk away. The main
train station, Santa Maria Novella, is an eight-minute walk away, while the Florence Airport is a 22-minute drive from here.

Rooms

Rooms varying in size and decor; some with frescoed ceilings, fireplaces, and Duomo views

The hotel offers a variety of rooms that range in size, decor, and price point. Basic Rooms are just that -- narrow, almost cell-like spaces with minimal furnishings.
In stark contrast, the Presidential Rooms are decked out with many stunning period
features such as frescoed ceilings, stone fountains, large fireplaces, and
stained-glass doors, complemented by other rich details like chandeliers,
wall tapestries, elegant parquet floors, and Oriental rugs. In some rooms, furnishings are noticeably worn, but these are in the process of being replaced.
Also, some of the fabrics like bedspreads, curtains, and carpets are a bit too fussy with old-fashioned, unappealing patterns. Bathrooms are clean and modern, though some are tiny, and are outfitted with walk-in showers or shower/tub combos (Superior Rooms offer both). All
rooms have amenities that include air-conditioning, minibars, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen
TVs, electronic safes, hairdryers, and toiletries in the bathroom. Some rooms have
superb views of the Duomo. Guests should note that noise can be a problem in street-facing rooms and that the elevator only reaches the third floor.

Features

Free buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi throughout the property

A buffet breakfast is included
in room rates and served every morning under the magnificent frescoed
ceiling of the breakfast room. Free Wi-Fi is available for guests throughout
the property, as well as an Internet connection (charged extra) via a lone
computer workstation in a hallway. The hotel also offers a 24-hour bar service, room
service throughout the day, and laundry, valet parking, and concierge services.
