Situated in a beautiful three-story building that dates back to the 16th-century and used to be a palace, the Silla Hotel greets guests with stone archways in a Renaissance-style courtyard dotted with potted plants and sculptures. Interiors are classically furnished, with details like glass chandeliers, oil paintings, and antique-style furniture filling the rooms. The small lobby features olive and gold patterned wallpaper and rust-colored velvet lounge seats presided over by the front desk. The breakfast area has a Victorian charm with its crystal chandeliers, gilt-framed oil paintings, and a collection of China plates lining wooden shelves. There's also a bar area with a few peach-hued armchairs that match the striped wallpaper, as well as a lovely outdoor terrace with plenty of tables and chairs and beautiful views of the river and city.

The hotel is located in the San Niccolo neighborhood on the left bank of the Arno River, a lively and authentic area full of locals that provides a respite from the tourist crowds. Many good restaurants, bars, and Florentine artisan workshops surround the hotel. The Ponte Vecchio is a 10-minute walk along the river and the walk to the Duomo takes about 15 minutes. The Piazzale Michelangelo, Giardino di Boboli, and the Monte alle Croci are also on this side of the river and are about a 15-minute walk uphill with nice views of the city. Florence Peretola Airport is less than 30 minutes away by car and about 34 minutes away by bus. The nearest bus stop is about a five-minute walk and is named Hotel Silla. 

There are 36 rooms in total, in a range of sizes that include small Single and Economy Rooms, larger Superior Rooms, and Family Rooms that sleep up to four. Some offer lovely views of the river and city, while others overlook the interior courtyard. All are traditionally decorated with classic, if fussy, decor like striped or damask wallpaper, brocade bedspreads and curtains, and simple wooden furnishings that include work desks and wardrobes. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi access, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars; Superior Rooms add tea- and coffee-making facilities and bathrobes. Bathrooms are modern and attractive with large beige tiles, deep-basin sinks (lacking in vanity space), and shower/tub combos or small walk-in showers.

The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast served in its elegant breakfast room, which can also be taken on the outdoor terrace. There's a small bar that serves coffee and cocktails. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Parking is available, though with a fee, and the hotel can arrange for transfers (with a charge).
