The Breakers

Palm Beach, Florida, United States

With its two 18-hole golf courses, 10 tennis courts, five heated oceanfront pools, and nine restaurants, this sprawling resort feels more like a Renaissance palace than a hotel. The 140-acre grounds are defined by historic architecture and elegant landscaping. The Breakers’ 540 rooms include all of the modern amenities -- minibars, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPod stereos -- but most feel a bit cramped for the price. The only major downside of The Breakers is its expensive, albeit delicious, on-site dining.

2

The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort

Bal Harbour, Florida, United States

The 243-room hotel is an excellent choice for visitors who are indifferent to the South Beach party scene. Highlights include lavish decor, spacious guest rooms with oceanfront balconies, two infinity pools, extensive spa with sauna and steam rooms, and three on-site dining options. There is also food and drink service poolside and on the beach.

3

The Setai, Miami Beach

South Beach, Miami, Florida, United States

A striking, moody design; impeccable service; three pools (each a different temperature); and prime beachside location make the Setai one of the best hotels in Miami. The hotel’s 85 rooms are gorgeous, gigantic, and filled with luxurious amenities like deep soaking tubs.

4

W South Beach

South Beach, Miami, Florida, United States

Elaborate natural design flows through this stunning 312-room beachfronter. Large, modern rooms (with the best terraces in Miami, all overlooking the ocean); luxurious spa and a modern, well-equipped fitness center; and trendy trestaurant The Dutch from renowned chef Andrew Carmellini -- the W tops the Miami greats.

5

Sunset Key Cottages

Key West, Florida, United States

This 40-room resort caters to the upscale traveler with luxurious, beach-chic cottages and high-end amenities, including a zero-degree entry pool with two whirlpools, a gorgeous beach with palm trees and clear waters, and a pleasant spa. Its location, though idyllic and exclusive, might be somewhat inconvenient for travelers who want to be close to shops and restaurants (the hotel only has one eatery on-site).
