Scene

Quiet and relaxing hotel with bohemian style and tropical gardens

The Apartments Paraiso de los Pinos is a peaceful place where the only sounds are of birds and the wind. Set in the countryside, the property is surrounded by forest and fields. Whitewashed buildings have bright blue shutters, and pathways wind around the grounds' tropical gardens. There is also a lawn area with Balinese beds, lending the property an exclusive yet bohemian feeling that fits Formentera. To set the relaxing scene, the hotel offers guests a free welcome sangria on arrival. This property has a clean, natural scent throughout and decor in the lobby features natural wood floors, woven seats, and earth tones. Typically uncrowded during the day, the property picks up in the early evening as guests return and head to the pool to hang out in sunbeds. Families with kids often stay here, as do international and Spanish couples.

Location

South end of Formentera, close to the beach

This hotel is on the south end of Formentera island in the countryside, surrounded by forest and fields. A car is typically necessary while staying anywhere in Formentera, but some guests suggest borrowing bikes or electric bikes from the hotel (available for free) to ride around the island. Taxi fare can also add up, so scooter rentals are another option. Guests at this hotel can walk to the beach in about 10 minutes, and there are a few restaurants near the beach as well. The capital of the island, Sant Francesc Xavier, is a 10-minute bike ride or taxi ride away and has more cafes, restaurants, and shops. The property is a 15- to 20-minute ride from other, more beautiful beaches such as Migjorn and Illetes. Port La Savina, offering ferry service to Ibiza and surrounding islands, is a 13-minute drive from the property. There is no airport on Formentera -- ferry service from Ibiza takes about 30 minutes.

Rooms

Stylish and earthy apartments with open layout and full kitchens

Apartments are bright and clean with a functional feeling. Units range from two-person studios to apartments for up to four people. Apartments are decorated in mostly white with natural wood, bright yellow, and cobalt blue accents. Rooms have an open layout, with only a small dividing wall between living rooms and beds. Living rooms also hold sofa beds and flat-screen TVs. Each room is air-conditioned and has a full kitchen with microwaves and stovetops, not ovens. Minibars are provided. Wi-Fi is free but not consistent. All rooms have terraces or balconies with modern white chairs and tables. Guests have complained that these are not child-proof balconies, so families might want to request ground-level rooms instead. Ground-level rooms also have direct access to the pool. Bungalows with private hot tubs are also available.

Bathrooms feature rainfall showers and there are exterior sinks. Toiletries, robes, and hairdryers are provided. In some bathrooms, a glass screen separates the shower from the rest of the room and faces large mirrors -- this can allow others in the apartment to see into showers.

Features

Free breakfast buffet, popular restaurant, and large outdoor pool

Breakfast buffet is included with rates and served daily. Guests give high marks to the variety, which includes fresh fruits and meats. One of the most popular restaurants on the island, Restaurante Marlaca, is located here and serves continental fare for lunch and dinner. Guests give the food raves, but the service can be inconsistent. The pool is spacious and there's a separate kiddy pool. A hot tub is also available. The nearest beach can be overrun with seaweed but other options are within a short drive. A very large parking lot is across the road for guests who have cars. The property can arrange various activities and make bookings and reservations. Bikes are free to borrow. Yoga classes are offered on request and there are tennis courts on-site. There are laundry facilities on the property. A small business center provides just one laptop computer. Wi-Fi is available, but reportedly slow.
