With a range of activities and amenities that cater to both adults and children, the hotel draws a mix of couples and families. Given the property's convenient location in the heart of Playa del Ingles and its array of child-friendly features (which include a summer kids' club, a miniature golf course, and a kiddie pool), the Sol Barbacan is a solid pick for a family vacation. The spaciousness of the units is another draw for families, but they are somewhat sparingly furnished, particularly in the bedrooms. 

Aparthotel Buenos Aires is a budget-friendly property conveniently located adjacent to Yumbo Centrum shopping center and a 15-minute walk from the beach. There is nothing quite outstanding about the property, but its 150 apartments, although compact and basic, are clean and feature fully stocked kitchenettes, sofa beds, and flat-screen TVs. Air-conditioning, however, is available for a daily fee and only in some units, which is common for value hotels in the area. The pool is pleasant and heated seasonally, and has a big deck, a whirlpool, and a separate kiddy area. Most guests find the restaurant bordering on mediocre, but the poolside snack bar generally gets good reviews. Families seeking something more lively may want to compare rates at Parque Cristobal Gran Canaria, which features a full entertainment program.

Las Gondolas Apartments is a basic budget option that suits those open to venturing out for food and entertainment. Thankfully, the hotel's prime location -- just a two-minute walk from the beachfront -- makes this easy. Apartments are tidy and have either one or two bedrooms, kitchenettes, living rooms with sofa beds, and furnished terraces or balconies. Air-conditioning isn't available, and there are fees for safes and television. Free Wi-Fi will be available starting in August 2017, so check ahead. Basic features include a tranquil pool and immaculately-kept rooftop sundeck with sea views. A decent buffet breakfast, half-board, and all-inclusive plans are available via neighboring HL Sahara Playa Hotel. For on-site food and drinks, try Club Vista Serena instead, though it's much farther from the beach.

The 251-room Riu Don Miguel is a mid-range chain hotel in the middle of Playa del Ingles. This modern, adult-only hotel uses colors festively, with a bright pink seating area in the lobby and pink and purple furnishings and decor throughout its three restaurants and bars. The guest rooms are moderately large and also punched up by pops of color. Each room offers a sizable balcony, a mini-fridge, and a flat-screen TV. While the half-board option includes buffet breakfast and dinner in the cost of the room, Wi-Fi incurs an extra charge, except for 90 minutes per day of free access in the lobby.

The Parque Cristobal Gran Canaria is a mid-range, extremely family-friendly complex located in the center of the Playa del Ingles resort. The 233 individual bungalows are comfortable and come with living areas and well-equipped kitchenettes, as well as outdoor areas with loungers. However, not all rooms have air-conditioning and use of in-room safes requires a fee. Otherwise, there are two swimming pool areas, one of which is dedicated to kids with waterslides and a water-jet playground. A kids' club, an excellent animation team, and mini-disco are other child-friendly features. The buffet restaurant has well-reviewed theme nights and multiple dining packages available. A spa and nightly entertainment provide something for the grown-ups, but couples are better off at the adult-only Sunprime Atlantic View Suites & Spa nearby.

With direct access to Playa del Ingles' main beach, the 273-room IFA Dunamar Hotel is a large two-and-a-half-pearl all-inclusive option with one of the best locations in town. Decor is dated throughout the hotel, though it has attractive pools, numerous bars, and tranquil stone terraces that offer plenty of semi-private sunbathing spots. Rooms are clean, but spartan, and have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Almost all have either terraces or balconies -- some with gorgeous sea views -- but in-room Wi-Fi and satellite channels aren't free. There's also a large buffet restaurant and nudist sunbathing terrace, though you'll hear a bit of noise in most outdoor areas throughout the day and kid-friendly features are few. Alternatively, it's also worth considering Escorial, which provides free spa access, free parking, and free Wi-Fi.

The 383-room IFA Continental Hotel is a mid-range property located a few minutes' walk from a long stretch of beach. Situated between Playa del Ingles and San Agustin, the hotel is a convenient 5-minute cab ride to area nightlife. Simple rooms are well-maintained and have furnished balconies, but guests have to rent fans or air-conditioning units. Though there's only one restaurant, its buffet offerings are of a good quality and all-inclusive packages are available. The two outdoor pools with whirlpool tubs are the hotel's most alluring features, so expect guests to reserve loungers early in the morning. Evening entertainment and a modest fitness center round out the amenities. Couples may prefer the adult-only Riu Don Miguel.

Cordial Biarritz Bungalows is a peaceful, 76-apartment property located in a quiet corner of Playa del Ingles, far enough from nightclub noise, but within a reasonable walk of the beach. It has a standout pool and picturesque grounds with multiple recreation areas, including mini-golf and tennis courts. The bungalow-style apartments come with one or two bedrooms and -- while slightly dated -- are clean, spacious, and pleasant, with large sunbathing terraces, separate kitchens, and free Wi-Fi. However, only some have air-conditioning. There aren't any organized recreational activities or live entertainment, but most guests prefer Yumbo Centre's nearby nightlife instead. There's free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi throughout. This hotel caters mostly to mature couples, and younger guests looking for similar features might try Playa del Sol Apartments instead.

The 400-room, mid-range Hotel Eugenia Victoria is 10 minutes from the center of the town of Playa del Ingles in an area filled with hotels, and about a half-mile from the beach, to which the hotel runs free shuttles all day. Some rooms are not as up-to-date as others; the more modern rooms are simple but breezy, with a buttery yellow color scheme and balconies. Showers, however, are tiny. Nonetheless, this property offers a solid all-inclusive value with an extensive buffet restaurant, a massive pool, and a lovely spa.

The huge 724-room IFA Buenaventura Hotel is a mid-range hotel located within walking distance of Playa del Ingles' buzzing nightlife and beach. It's a lively resort-style property with plenty on offer, including an excellent animation team for entertainment during the day and night. Simple rooms are well-maintained with light wood and wicker furniture, plus some have sea views from balconies; however, tube TVs and motel-style comforters are dated, and many amenities incur a charge. The pool area is usually a crowded hive of activity and not great for relaxing. This is a good value option for fun-focused families, but couples seeking peace and quiet should check out the adult-only Riu Don Miguel.

Escorial is a large, family-friendly mid-range hotel located on the eastern edge of Playa del Ingles. While it may look a bit dated and tired, the hotel has extensive refurbishment planned, to be completed by summer 2018 (be sure to check ahead). Its 250 rooms all have large furnished balconies, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and free Wi-Fi, but air-conditioning costs extra. The extensive grounds are packed with facilities, including a spa with a Dead Sea floating pool, outdoor pool, rooftop sunbathing terrace, and sprawling game room. There's only one bar and one buffet restaurant, but the latter offers good variety plus live show-cooking stations the option for all-inclusive rates. For a hotel with a variety of pools and bars, try IFA Dunamar Hotel, but be prepared to pay more.

The 324-room Green Field is a budget hotel that's a short walk from the beach, near Playa del Ingles' bars and shops. No-frills studios and apartments have sofa beds, furnished balconies (some with partial sea views), and small kitchenettes, but there have been complaints of poor soundproofing and the look is part modern, part dated. Additionally, there are fees for safes and Wi-Fi. The pool deck is lively, verging on loud, and includes fitness activities, a whirlpool, and a small snack bar with outdoor seating. Buffet meals are served in a drab dining room, and food gets average reviews. The Green Field is a decent pick for a few cheap days in the sun, but travelers on a tighter budget may want to compare rates with Las Gondolas Apartamentos.

Of the myriad tired budget apart-hotels in Playa del Ingles, Servatur Barbados might blend in with the rest. But its excellent location and quiet, homey vibe set it apart. It’s just around the corner from Yumbo Shopping Centre, and an equidistant walk to both the beachfront and sand dunes. Despite dated decor, all 70 apartments are clean and pleasant, with two bedrooms, sofa beds, and balconies -- most overlooking the pool. There’s no air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, or free satellite channels, and features are admittedly basic. Two pools do provide somewhere to kick back, and the poolside bar serves sandwiches and light snacks. The hotel is peaceful and low key, but for those craving a youthful party vibe, try Playa del Sol Apartments instead.

The 469-room Beverly Park Hotel is a mid-range, '70s-era property set just off a busy highway on the eastern edge of Playa del Ingles resort. Interiors and furnishings are quite dated, particularly in the guest rooms -- which include green carpets, tube TVs, and patterned comforters. However, a long sandy beach is just a minute away on foot, plus the hotel's five pools and child-friendly facilities are a highlight. Other features include an adequate spa, sports facilities, and a buffet restaurant with an all-inclusive option. It's worth paying a higher rate at the more modern Hotel Eugenia Victoria, which also has an excellent spa, though it's farther from the beach.
