Villa Oniria

Scene

Airy, elegant villa with classic Andalusian architecture, outdoor lounging, and modern furnishings

The upscale Villa Oniria has a charming, cream-colored stone facade with wrought-iron balconies and wooden doors, making it stand out against the gray, cobblestone street. Inside, this restored 19th-century manor house combines traditional Andalusian architecture with modern comforts. Sunlight streams through large windows, while modern decor in cozy earth tones completes the sophisticated vibe. There's a soothing interior courtyard with stone colonnades, a blue tile floor, and a fountain at its center, along with white stone benches where guests can sit and catch their breath after a day of sightseeing. In fact, there is no shortage of space in which to relax at this property, with its rooftop sunbathing terrace, and lush garden with fountains and vivid green lawns, where guests can sip cocktails in the evenings.

The interior Chimney Lounge feels luxe, with its creamy marble floors, trio of arched doorways with garden views, tall wooden shelves lined with books and antique globes, and plenty of plush couches and armchairs in icy blue, white, and warm beige. Guests tend to be tourists, including couples and families, and while the property offers easy access to all the sights in Granada, there is much to be enjoyed on-site.

In the center of Granada, near shopping and popular sights

The hotel sits on cobbled Calle San Antón in a busy neighborhood in the city center, with bars and restaurants all around. Calle San Anton, which runs parallel to the hotel's street, is a major shopping thoroughfare with numerous boutiques. The hotel is a 25-minute walk from the historic Alhambra palace complex -- it's an uphill walk, which may prove too strenuous for some guests; taxi trips take about 15 minutes. The historic Islamic quarter, El Albaicín, is a 20-minute walk away. It's a 10-minute walk to both the Cathedral of Granada and the Royal Chapel.

Rooms

Spacious, modern, and plush rooms -- though some are showing age

Rooms at Villa Oniria are individually decorated in a similar style to the rest of the hotel, with plush couches and chairs in earth tones, simple wood furnishings, and casually chic touches -- like polka-dot pillows and backlit bedside shelves. Almost all of the rooms are Double Superiors, which are air-conditioned and have flat-screen TVs with international channels, safes, minibars, and comfy mattresses. Each room has a small couch, roomy desk, and lots of natural light. Bathrooms are modern with geometric-patterned stone floors, shower/tub combos, and separate, stone shower stalls. Junior Suites are on the fourth floor, and have big private terraces with views of Albaycin and the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Villa Oniria Suite, on the first floor, has a terrace overlooking the garden, as well as a fireplace and double shower. Some rooms' carpeting and paint are showing wear and tear, while others -- mainly at the front of the building -- may get some street noise.
