Hotel Turenne

Hotel Turenne is housed in a traditional Alsatian building, with plaster walls and exposed timber framing, topped with dormers on its shingled roof. Faded blue or pink shutters decorate the windows, and the front door is sheltered by a quaint, wood-shingled awning. A glass and stainless steel door opens into an old-fashioned lobby, with yellow walls dressed up by wainscoting and candle-style sconces. A wood-paneled reception desk takes up most of the narrow space, and a sign points the way to the dark-wood-paneled bar. While the Old World style may not suit all travelers' tastes, the rest of the hotel has been updated with modern decor, with contemporary wallpaper and carpeting run throughout. Guests tend to be leisure travelers, mostly couples and some families and friends traveling together. 

The hotel is situated a two-minutes' walk outside the cobblestone streets of Colmar's historic Old Town. It's about a four-minute walk to the middle of the popular Little Venice (La Petite Venise) area, filled with restaurants, nightlife, and sights, including the gothic St. Martin's Church, an 11-minute walk from the hotel. The city's main train station (Gare de Colmar) is a 15-minute walk away, and Colmar-Houssen Airport is at least a 10-minute drive. Colmar is located in northeastern France's Alsace region, near the German border, and is positioned on the popular Alsatian Wine Route. 

The hotel's 56 air-conditioned rooms have warm, contemporary decor, with dark carpets, white and gray walls, and most are accented with throw pillows, small stools, and shaded headboard fixtures in a striking red. Some rooms have purple accents and vaulted ceilings. Wood veneer furnishings have a faded reclaimed look, with brushed stainless steel legs. The Standard Rooms are small, starting at only 129 square feet, with double or two twin beds, and small desks. Triple Rooms have either three single beds, or double beds paired with twin beds, and there are some Quadruple Rooms with a double beds and sleeper sofas. Free Wi-Fi is included, and there are 26-inch flat-screen wall-mounted TVs, but there are no mini-fridges or electric kettles. Upgraded rooms in all categories are larger with the same amenities. Most bathrooms have heated towel racks and small walk-in showers, though some have updated rainfall showers. 

The lovely wood-paneled bar is decorated with stained glass windows and oil paintings, and serves Alsatian wine and beer with seating at  tables and tufted booths. There's no full restaurant, but a sprawling breakfast hall has several interconnecting rooms, with painted wood ceilings, and a buffet with local and regional offerings for a fee. There's no fitness room, but other amenities include a 24-hour internet corner, free parking available by request in the hotel's garage, and free Wi-Fi throughout.
