Set between a busy main road and rocky beachfront, Hotel Neptuno-Triton is one of two giant hotel towers that dominates the level streetscape, with its lofty height and dated retro aesthetic. The property's Roman-inspired branding is evident from the outside, and there's a big (waterless) King Neptune fountain out front and a trident logo plastered onto the entrance. Inside, the expansive lobby blends warm sunset orange tones with floor tiles in charcoal, complete with a big white trident emblem stamped into the floor. There’s a row of wicker lounge settings near the front desk where guests are often in wait mode and elevators that lead up to rooms, but they’re slow. The grounds are sprawling -- inside and out -- with covered walkways and a large pool that leads out to the hotel's rocky beach. The overall vibe is resort-like in an old-school way, but the hotel is dated, and visiting feels like stepping back into the early '80s. Other downsides include maintenance issues and mediocre food.

Hotel Neptuno Triton is located in the business district of Miramar, and it takes about 25 minutes to get to Jose Marti International Airport and to Old Havana. Given the distance from sights, self-driving make sense, or guests should expect to fork out for cabs, however there are restaurants and bars to explore in the immediate vicinity.

Rooms here come in Double and Triple categories and all are dated, but practical. Decor includes peppermint and tan walls, bedspreads in solid earth-tone hues, old-fashioned wood and cane furniture, and some wall hangings. All rooms have balconies, with better views from higher floors, and those facing the ocean are particularly impressive. Standard amenities include old-fashioned tube TVs with satellite cable, safes, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges. Fully tiled bathrooms feature granite vanities, stand-up showers with artsy curtains, hairdryers, and a selection of free toiletries. While some guests are satisfied with rooms, others complain of cleanliness and maintenance issues, not to mention wafer-thin pillows.

Features at Hotel Neptuno-Triton are geared toward vacationers, though they’re all a bit mediocre. The highlight is a big outdoor pool surrounded by lounge chairs and table settings with plenty of space for swimmers to spread out and even do laps. It looks out over the beach, which is pleasant to look at but is too rocky for sunbathing. Dining options include a poolside snack bar along with two indoor restaurants: a buffet (Buffet Cristal) and an a la carte option (Restaurant Caribeno). Both get mixed reviews. There's also a bar, Lobby Bar Neptuno, which has an indoor and outdoor seating, and an internet area with a couple of desktop computers. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, free of charge, and there's plenty of free on-site parking.
