For guests seeking a laid-back all-inclusive in a less crowded area of Jamaica, Sandals South Coast is a beautiful, secluded option. The only hotel in Whitehouse, the resort is spread over a two-mile stretch of beach, and features European architecture, a wide variety of activities and entertainment options, and all of the amenities guests familiar with the brand have come to expect. Spacious and inviting, the resort is surrounded by 500 acres of wilderness preserve, making it quiet and very private. Guests who want to explore the local area will have fewer options than those staying at the Sandals properties in Negril and Montego Bay, but there are waterfalls, zip lines, and a variety of local tours, as well as the Appleton Rum factory and the nearby town of Whitehouse. Renovations in 2016 saw the addition of overwater features including a bar and chapel, an ocean-based swim-up bar, and four new restaurants. The resort is in the process of adding overwater bungalows.
Scene
Quiet, adults-only vibe
After driving down the long driveway through trees and gardens, guests are welcomed by the hotel's large, lavish entrance. The main lobby is enclosed and air-conditioned, with a very large reception desk and plenty of armchairs and sofas, and it's decorated with high ceilings and soothing, neutral tones. The front desk provides concierge services as well as check-in, and guests on their way home are sent off with a song from the staff. Another set of doors lead to a wide plaza in the center of the resort, with easy access to rooms, the main pool, restaurants, bars, and shops.
Location
Quiet and secluded right on the beach
About two hours from the airport in Montego Bay, Sandals South Coast is located in a natural wildlife preserve, right along a long stretch of private beach. While the drive through the hills takes some narrow roads and can be a bit unnerving, the result is a resort that’s extremely secluded and private, with no noise from nearby buildings or towns. The only hotel in Whitehouse, the resort is located a few miles from the main town, and a short drive away from YS Falls, the Appleton Rum factory, and the Black River.
Rooms
Spacious standard rooms and luxurious penthouses
Sandals South Coast has a wide selection of rooms to suit all types of couples. Decorated in dark woods and elegant, soothing neutrals with bright pops of color, even the most basic rooms feel luxurious and spacious, and every room has a view of the water. All rooms include air-conditioning, mini-fridges stocked with water and sodas, coffeemakers, microwaves, amenities kits, and patios or balconies. Clubrooms offer additional amenities, like access to the Club Sandals lounge, private orientation, free Wi-Fi, a dedicated concierge for help with reservations and activity bookings, private room bars, and free room service. For guests who want a truly luxurious experience, generously sized butler suites are also available, providing guests with a private butler that can assist with almost anything they may require. These rooms feature whirlpool tubs, large marble bathrooms, and balconies, and while they’re the most spacious, they’re also significantly more expensive.
