The Bonerowski Palace

Located directly on Main Market Square in the heart of Krakow, the Bonerowski Palace hotel is housed in a building that dates from the Middle Ages, originally constructed in 1514. The hotel features elegant, classic decor -- antique wood furniture, voluminous drapes with fringe and tassels, floral wallpaper, parquet floors, and upholstered high-backed chairs. A spiral staircase with a beautiful wrought-iron railing snakes through the center of the building. It twirls around an impressive chandelier -- reportedly the longest in Europe, measuring more than 70 feet. The multi-room restaurant is a standout spot, with such design features as a vaulted ceiling painted black and finished with bright hydrangea flowers. Other rooms feature arched doorways, Gothic columns, painted wood-beam ceilings, and exposed brick or stone accents. The hotel's exceptional location right on Main Market Square makes this a popular spot for tourists, especially couples, but kid-friendly amenities draw a good share of families too.

Main Market Square is a convenient central location for exploring the city, and the hotel is in walking distance to a plethora of museums, restaurants, and theaters. Limited valet parking is available nearby for an extra fee. The hotel also offers train station and airport pick-up and drop-off services as well as car rental.

The Bonerwoski Palace's 16 rooms are individually decorated with elegant, traditional decor, antique wood furniture, and parquet floors. Most feature white wainscoting, voluminous drapes, black-and-white framed pictures, and bright toile or floral wallpaper. The marble bathrooms tend to be roomy and may include tubs (some quite large) with shower wands or separate shower stalls, bidets and vanities with magnifying mirrors. Rooms are spacious overall: entry-level Deluxe Rooms measure a minimum of 258 square feet; all other rooms measure at least 600 square feet, and the largest suite is a massive 1,200 square feet. Suites have more luxurious decor and may include ornate rugs, stylish upholstered couches and matching swoop armchairs, or canopies over the beds.  

Rooms are air-conditioned and include flat-screen TVs, wardrobes, desks, safes, and free Wi-Fi, plus shoe polish and sewing kits. They also include coffee- and tea-making facilities, free bottled water and juice, and generously stocked minibars. Bathroom amenities include hairdryers, robes and slippers, and individually wrapped toiletries. Housekeeping comes twice daily. Most rooms face a small street and don't have much of a view, but a few of the suites overlook the square.

The Bonerowski has most of the features guests expect from an elegant boutique property. The charming Bonerowska Gourmet Steak & Fish Restaurant has seasonal outdoor seating directly on Main Market Square, and there's also an on-site bar and burlesque-style music club in the basement. A daily breakfast buffet offers a range of options, including made-to-order omelets. Breakfast isn't included in all room rates, and while guests give the food high marks, they complain that it's pricey. Guests are offered free welcome drinks, and room service is available during limited hours.

The hotel's spa is tiny but pleasant, with a few loungers, a massage table, a steam sauna, and a Finnish sauna. There is no actual fitness center, but there is a small stationary bike in the spa room.

The hotel is also host to Chopin piano concerts, which are generally performed daily in the early evening. The hotel has two meeting rooms with multimedia equipment and can arrange for business meetings, weddings, and other events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The Bonerowski is kid-friendly and offers cribs, high chairs, and childcare (for a fee). Pets are also allowed for an extra fee.

The hotel offers valet parking in a nearby lot, car service, and airport transfers to the main train station or nearby airports. The front desk is open 24-hours, and staff offer such concierge services as ticket assistance, tour arrangements, recommendations, reservations, and laundry service.
