Occupying a historic architectural complex designed in the late 1980s by Canarian artist Cesar Manrique, Lani’s Suites is one of the most famous hotels in Lanzarote. Its 25 high-end suites are housed in as many pristine white buildings surrounded by skinny but lush tropical gardens, and set around a quiet pool cascading towards the ocean. The property is accessed via a small lobby decorated with whimsical designer accents, such as a heavy white desk with a glass top displaying dozens of diamond-shaped pieces of glass, a deep purple velvet tufted couch, a black textured wall with fantasy motifs, and a statue of a dog tied with a leash to the wall. This sleek, eccentric decor style is one of the hotel’s trademarks, which combined with its top-notch services and central location make it one of the most coveted and exclusive properties in the area. The attention to detail at Lani’s is outstanding, from the in-room amenities provided (think: binoculars for watching the dolphins, fully stocked wine coolers, and bluetooth speakers) to the general services offered at the hotel, including standard turndown service, concierges, and free sunscreen and cocktails around the pool.

As an adult-only boutique, Lani’s Suites draws mostly European couples, and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Most guests stay around the pool during the day, and either dine on-site or go out to explore the many nearby bars and restaurants when the sun goes down. Although there is no music and no activities program at Lani's, the hotel’s location right on the main drag allows for easy access to all types of entertainment. The beach isn't far either: the pool deck has a small gate that opens directly onto a small, narrow stretch of sand dotted with large volcanic rocks. 

The hotel offers a combination of style, relaxation, and services that is hard to beat, but those seeking other high-end options to compare may want to consider La Isla y El Mar Hotel Boutique, which features a few more on-site amenities -- including a gym, a buffet restaurant, and a bigger spa -- and a similarly sleek design. H10 Timanfaya Palace is another excellent adult-only option for those seeking something a little cheaper. It features striking interior design, excellent food, yoga and Pilates classes, indoor and outdoor pools, and stylish rooms. (Though location a half-hour drive from the airport may be not as convenient as Lani’s Suites’ to some.) Travelers looking for a more bustling atmosphere may want to consider Hotel THe Volcan Lanzarote,  which has several pools and adult-only areas. In that same price range, Sentido Aequora Lanzarote offers a lively resort experience with a full entertainment program, a spa, a gym, and all-inclusive rates. 

Lani’s Suites has an excellent location right in the heart of Puerto del Carmen. The main entrance is directly on Avenida de las Playas -- the town’s main drag -- which has a huge array of restaurants, bars, and shops; the rear door offers direct access to a small, quiet beach with sandy patches and large volcanic rocks. The local casino and some of the area’s most popular oceanfront cafes are all within a three-minute walk of the hotel. Playa Blanca, a lovely stretch of sand with rental loungers and umbrellas, can be reached on foot in about five minutes along the promenade. Timanfaya, a stunning national park home to several volcanoes, is about a 25-minute drive away. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the airport. Guests considering renting a car may want to note that there is no on-site parking at Lani’s Suites, and finding a spot in the area can be difficult, especially on weekends. 

Lani’s has 25 large, high-end suites, each with one or two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and at least one terrace with expansive ocean views. Their design is sleek and often whimsical, with all-white decor punctuated with bright splashes of fuchsia, lilac, red, or black, and a combination of eccentric artwork and minimalist lines throughout. Large tufted headboards and ostrich leather-style upholstery are stylish, contemporary elements found in every room, but each suite has at least a couple of unique touches, which could be anything from red-lacquered ornaments displayed on the coffee table, to a series of mirrored vases set on the entertainment center, or a dark accent wall decorated with big white-and-silver flowers.

Besides the sleek and quirky design, rooms at Lani’s also stand out for their staggering array of top-of-the-line amenities. Instead of the standard minibar found in most other hotels, each room at Lani’s Suites offers a full bar area in the living room complete with a wide array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a range of snacks such as nuts, several types of chocolate bars, and candy. Wine coolers are stocked with an excellent selection of wines from around the world, and Nespresso coffee pods, water, and tea are replenished daily free of charge. High-end technologies available in all rooms include large smart TVs, electric blinds, free Wi-Fi, wireless phones, bluetooth speakers, and binoculars. Large closets are equipped with free safes, Crocs-style slippers, irons and ironing boards, several different types of pillows, and hand-held scales for weighing suitcases.  

Upscale, stylish bathrooms have dark textured walls and all-white surfaces, and feature large walk-in rain showers, digital scales, spacious sink areas, and an array of Chopard toiletries. Extras such as body lotion, nail files, dental, sewing and shaving kits, hand cream, and professional hairdryers are also provided. 

Deluxe, Master, Master Premium, and Lanis suites feature larger terraces with private outdoor whirlpools, two loungers, and expansive ocean views.

The hotel’s small pool is located right in the center of the property, directly overlooking the ocean and adjacent to the restaurant. The lack of music and entertainment around the pool allows for a quiet, relaxing atmosphere during the day, and the heated water makes it inviting even in the colder months of the year. Cushioned loungers feature adjustable covers for extra hygiene and comfort, and towels rolled into perfect cylinders are displayed on each seat. Butlers go around the pool several times a day with free cocktails, and there is a basket by the pool with free sunscreen, fruit water, and books that guests can borrow during their stay. The deck is beautifully lit up at night, with small string lights all along the edges, and low lights on every terrace. Topless sunbathing is allowed around the pool.

Lani's Suites is known in Puerto del Carmen not only for its high-end rooms and services but also for its restaurant. Housed in a small but airy porched dining room directly overlooking the ocean, the restaurant is a favorite among locals and visitors alike for romantic dinners. An excellent a la carte breakfast is included in all rates and offers a wide array of options, including fresh pastries, egg dishes, different types of coffee and tea, and bread baskets. The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, and includes local, regional, and international specialties such as oxtail croquettes, gazpacho, avocado shrimp salad, and beef stroganoff. Top-quality beef is imported weekly from northern Spain, and fish is sourced locally whenever possible. We had three delicious meals at Lani’s and especially loved the red tuna tataki, the perfectly cooked sirloin, and the truffle-scented pumpkin soup. Breakfast and lunch are casual and quiet, while the evening service has a more formal atmosphere, with cloth napkins and special welcome treats such as free cava drinks, small baskets with several types of warm bread, and small snacks. 

Oceanfront tables are exclusively for guests, but all tables feature views of the Atlantic. When the weather is nice, the only thing separating diners from the ocean is a low glass wall, which allows a gentle sea breeze to sweep through the dining room; large glass panels can be closed in the colder months to keep the space warm. Snacks are available daily from after breakfast until before dinner, and the restaurant offers room service during opening hours.

The hotel features a small massage room by the pool, complete with a treatment cabin and a Vichy shower. Guests can request a wide array of body treatments at the wellness center, including hot stone massages, ayurveda techniques, facials, peelings, and mud baths. Low instrumental music and dim lights and candles set the stage for a relaxing experience, and all treatments are performed using high-end products such as Alquimia. Our excellent 50-minute full-body massage left us feeling relaxed and rested. 

There is free, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property, including in all common spaces and suites. 

Lani's Suites has all the bells and whistles of top luxury properties when it comes to services, with an outstanding attention to detail, and top-notch extras throughout. Guests are contacted by the concierge a few weeks before their arrival to inquire about any special requests -- which can range from special rental cars to accessories for the suite -- and any allergies or dietary restrictions. Personalized check-in includes a brief welcome in the lobby and a more detailed explanation of all the services and features in the suite. We arrived to our room after check-in to find our suitcases gingerly placed on a piece of cloth on the bed, and the air-conditioning turned on to a comfortable temperature.

Turndown service is offered daily, and includes chocolates and bottled water, and a personalized good-night note (ours also reminded us one day to turn the clock forward that night for Winter Time). Blinds are lowered in each room every evening, and underbed lights are switched on to create a soothing, romantic atmosphere. 

The hotel also offers airport transfers services for a fee.
