The Desert Paradise Resort is a modern, chain-style suites hotel aimed at longer-stay families and business travelers, located about 10 minutes from the McCarran airport in Las Vegas. Situated in a quieter part of town, a few minutes' drive from the Las Vegas Strip, the mid-range hotel could hardly be called a resort, but all rooms are either one- or two-bedrooms apartments with full kitchens, and the hotel has two outdoor pools, a game room, a lounge, a barbecue area, and a fitness center.
Scene
Simple and standard for a suburban suites-hotel, with welcoming public spaces
In both presentation and function, the Desert Paradise Resort is more like an condo-apartment community than a resort. The lobby is simple and bright, with a wood reception desk and marble countertops. The simple beige tiling is uninteresting but the mix of wood, marble, and a recessed ceiling makes the room warm and inviting. Off the lobby, there is a small lounge with coffee and tea and two leather love-seats for sitting by the fireplace. The hotel also has a kids-oriented game room, equipped with leather couches and chairs, a TV, a foosball table, and a billiards table. The decor and furniture throughout border on bland, but the layout and numerous lounge spaces make it a leisurely, family-friendly place. The outdoor spaces are livelier, with a line of grills for guest use (including a handicap-accessible grill), and two pools among clusters of apartments. The family pool has a waterfall and a nearby splash pad/play place for younger kids. The adult pool is a bit smaller, but still sizable, and offers a quieter place for those without kids to relax. Both pools have numerous cushioned chaise lounges, chairs, and a few canopies for those looking to avoid the sun.
Location
In a quiet suburban area a few minutes' drive from the Las Vegas Strip
The Desert Paradise Resort is not centrally located, but neither is it too far from the Las Vegas attractions. A few minutes' drive from the Las Vegas Strip, the hotel offers a periodic shuttle, but it's typically easier to go by car. The McCarran International Airport is about 10 minutes away. The immediate surrounding area is a mix of businesses and homes, with plenty of restaurants; it's well-lit and safe to walk around at night.
Rooms
One- or two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens and laundry facilities
The Desert Paradise Resort consists of one- and two-bedroom apartments that come equipped with full kitchens, small dining rooms, and washer/dryers, in addition to a living room and bedroom(s). The apartments are modern and spacious; like in the common spaces, the decor is uninspired, with striped red chairs, wood dining chairs, and beige couches. It feels like a mock or staged home, but this also means everything is clean and in excellent condition. The kitchens are well stocked with full-size fridges, oven and stove, microwave, toaster, blender, coffeemaker, and enough dishware and pots to cook for four. Most apartments also have a small furnished balcony. The bathrooms are moderately sized, and very clean, with shower/tubs combinations and toiletries. There are flat-screen TVs in bedrooms as well as living rooms. Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Housekeeping is not offered daily.
Features
A game room, lounge, two pools, children's splash pad, and more
In addition to two outdoor pools -- one for families and one for adults only -- the hotel has a hot tub, a children's splash pad, a fitness center, a grilling patio, a lounge, and a game room. Although the gym's equipment is not top-of-the-line, it is a comprehensive enough collection for a standard workout. There's no restaurant on-site, but there are several within in the area, and the hotel's apartments offer fully functional kitchens and there are plenty of grills on the patio for a number of guests to cook simultaneously; there are also vending machines in the lobby lounge. The game room comes equipped with foosball and pool tables, aimed at kids. Free on-site parking is available, and Wi-Fi is offered for a fee.
