Situated on a small winding street, Casa Amora Guesthouse consists of two low-lying houses, with one entrance centered around a stone fountain on a cobblestone sidewalk and the other, a tile-front facade, set directly on the street. Inside, there are many pleasant places to sit, including a sun-filled breakfast nook with sage-colored walls, painted ceramics, and potted plants. This space opens up onto a serene, brick-lined garden patio with wooden tables and chairs. Hallways feature delightfully ornate mirrors and contemporary art prints.

Wedged between residential buildings on a tiny, calm street a five-minute walk to the nearest metro stop at Rato, the hotel sits less than a block from a small, lovely park, the Jardim das Amoreiras, and a 12-minute walk from the pedestrian Rua de São Bento, which is full of shops and restaurants. Marques de Pombal Square, a major roundabout with a plethora of transportation options, is a 10-minute walk and affords access to a direct airport bus (40 minutes total travel time). Avenida da Liberdade, with its luxury shops, is about a 15-minute walk away.

There is a romantic feel to these bright, airy rooms painted in subtle colors like sage and dusky lavender. Sconce chandelier lighting, white pillowed headboards, and gilt-frame wingback chairs add slightly old-fashioned charm to rooms that also feature clear lucite chairs, multi-directional chrome lamps, and sliding panel closet doors. Some bathrooms have a full clawfoot tub and a wood and marble vanity with inset ceramic sink within ample space, whereas others simply have an elegantly tiled walk-in shower. The duplex rooms and a couple of the single-level rooms have a kitchenette with stainless steel sink area, a mini-fridge, a toaster, and a hot plate. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, a safe, and an iPod dock.

Features at this guesthouse are limited, but pleasant. A homey kitchen lounge is full of chairs, a small couch, a 50s-era fridge, and snacks. There is a lovely breakfast nook that leads, through glass doors, to a shaded patio garden behind the property. There is a single parking space available for a daily fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
