Part of the Marriott hotel chain, the mid-range Moxy has a focus on design and a casual DIY concept that appeals to the frequent traveler and the young at heart. Just as most other airport hotels, the property covers all the basics for a quick layover in Milan, but manages to stand out among the rest with a casual, youthful atmosphere and an attractive design that combines industrial-inspired touches such as pipe-like lamps with exposed bulbs and concrete-style surfaces with large windows, comfortable seating, and convenient perks such as free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour convenience store with pre-cooked meals. Common spaces have an open layout that feels welcoming, with the bar and reception areas sharing one large space. A long wooden communal table with metal chairs is a good spot for those who need to get some work done, while the lounge area offers a foosball table and lots of seating for travelers looking to unwind before or after a flight. 

The Moxy is just one of many airport hotels, but its proximity to Terminal 2 and fashionable interiors drive rates up compared to other mid-range options in the area. Business travelers seeking something with a full range of amenities and services may prefer the Crowne Plaza Milan – Malpensa Airport, which features a gym, full restaurant, and meeting rooms. Rooms there, though, are chain-like and a tad older. The Holiday Inn Express Milan-Malpensa Airport is a good alternative for those on a tighter budget, complete with clean, well-equipped rooms, free breakfast, and an airport shuttle (for a fee). The Hilton Garden Inn Milano Malpensa is even cheaper and offers free on-site parking and a 24-hour gym. 

The hotel is located right across the street from Terminal 2 at Milan-Malpensa Airport, offering easy walking access both to boarding gates and public transport to the city center. There aren’t any restaurants, bars, or shops within an easy stroll of the property, but guests can take a quick cab ride to an area with a few dining options located about 1.5 miles away. While this is not a convenient location for exploring central Milan (located about an hour away by bus), the southern tip of Lago Maggiore is just about a half-hour drive away. The hotel offers on-site parking for a fee, as well as free, 24-hour shuttle service to Terminal 1. 

The hotel has 162 rooms, all newly built in 2014 and done up in a trendy, fun style that includes large wall photos of young, cheerful people, dark laminate furniture with clean lines, and chocolate-brown wall-to-wall carpets. However, some are on the small side. Though they’re not particularly sophisticated, all rooms are contemporary and comfortable, with excellent beds topped with light duvets, and thick windows that provide great soundproofing. Additionally, all come equipped with an array of up-to-date amenities, including free Wi-Fi, 42-inch flat-screen TVs with international channels, USB charging ports, and iPod docks. Storage space is limited, but most guests are here just for a night and don’t seem to mind. Each room also features a small work area with a skinny desk and a padded stool, but those wanting a more comfortable spot to get work done may want to go down to the lobby. Family Rooms have sofa beds in separate living areas. 

Bathrooms are clean and modern, with walk-in showers, sink areas spacious enough to store personal items, and hairdryers. Basic toiletries are provided in large wall-mounted containers, and additional ones can be requested. 

Though there is no full restaurant at the Moxy, basic food items and hot and cold drinks are available 24/7 in the lobby bar. In the morning, continental and grab-and-go breakfast options are available for a fee, including fresh orange juice, pastries, espresso-based drinks, fresh fruit, and tea. Additionally, cocktails, wine, and beer are served throughout the day, while pre-cooked meals can be purchased at any time of the day and night at the self-service counter, complete with a microwave. There is also a small convenience store with snacks and drinks, including chips, sodas, candy, bottled water, and ice cream. Aside from free, fast Wi-Fi, the hotel has a couple of computers that guests can use free of charge. The hotel lacks a gym and full restaurant.
