The Oxford Hotel London is situated in a classic four-story town house with a brick facade and white bay windows. Inside however, the property offers little in the way of decor, though old architectural features, like wood banisters, give some measure of charm. There aren't many common areas (the lobby is mostly a reception desk), but the checkered floors, brown button-tufted bench seating, and a few gold-framed paintings give it a homey feel. Guests find the hotel a little run-down, and cleanliness issues in rooms are a primary complaint. But rooms are private and adequately sized, with en-suite bathrooms and one to four beds, attracting budget-minded travelers, including solo travelers, families, and friend groups. 

One of the hotel's best features is its location, right around the corner from Earl's Court underground station (three-minute walk), on a road neatly lined with residential buildings and budget hotels with period facades. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes in walking distance. Some of London’s top museums are within a 25-minute walk, including the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. But most sights are a bit farther out, and require a tube or taxi ride, such as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (a 16-minute tube ride away) or Buckingham Palace (a 22-minute ride). Kensington High Street's shops are a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Heathrow Airport is about 40 minutes away via public transit while Gatwick Airport is about an hour.

Possibly the biggest drawback to Oxford Hotel London are its guest rooms, which are decidedly basic and a bit run-down with wood floors, neutral walls, cot-like beds, and little in the way of decor. White-tiled bathrooms are compact but functional with toilets, sinks, and wet-room style showers. The hotel offers everything from singles through quadruple rooms. While not large by any means, many rooms are fairly well-sized for a London hotel. Guests often complain of cleanliness or maintenance issues, wear-and-tear, and musty smells, while others find rooms dated but clean-enough for a budget property. 

All rooms include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, tea/coffee service (with electric kettles), safes, mini-fridges, and radios. Bathrooms have basic toiletries and hairdryers. Towels and sheets are provided. Rooms have fans, but are not air-conditioned. Wi-Fi costs an extra fee. Guests should note that some guest rooms are situated in an annex, a few doors down from the main property. 

Like many city hotels in this pearl-range, this budget property has few extra features. The biggest bonus is the daily breakfast -- it's limited (bread, cereal, boiled eggs), but free and served in a decent breakfast room. The hotel has a 24-hour front desk, though staff get mixed reviews. There's also an elevator -- not a given in town house hotels -- and is air-conditioned in the common areas (though not in guest rooms). There's no on-site parking and pets aren't allowed. Wi-Fi costs an extra fee.
