Located steps from Hollywood Boulevard, the Magic Castle is a quirky, unpretentious 40-room hotel with simple, spacious rooms, an exhaustive list of free perks (Wi-Fi, breakfast, minibar treats), access to the exclusive Magic Castle club next door, and exceptional service. Overall, it's a terrific value and one of L.A.'s hidden gems.

Right in the heart of Hollywood, Loews Hollywood Hotel caters to both business and leisure travelers with amenities and a glitzy look that pushes this property into the four-pearl category. With a FedEx business center, a full-service spa, and two popular eateries, it combines big-chain conveniences with an upscale sheen. This is especially apparent in the large modern guest rooms with glam decor, Keurig coffeemakers, and some fantastic views including ones of the Hollywood sign or the city skyline. The views are also noteworthy by the sunny rooftop pool. Parking fees are steep and the hotel can get over-crowded, but the only real competitor with real estate like this is The Hollywood Roosevelt, which can get equally crowded.

The Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills is a renovated motel property with 86 contemporary-retro style rooms. This hotel's convenient and ultra-walkable location does its best to challenge the idea that travelers need a car to visit Los Angeles. Within a 15-minute walk, guests can find themselves searching for stars on Hollywood Boulevard, shopping at Hollywood and Highland, listening to live music or sipping cocktails at a nearby venue or bar, dining at area hot spots, or taking in the view of the Hollywood sign. The hotel also has an outdoor pool built inside a private courtyard, as well as parking, and it is attached to the ever-popular, late-night Cafe 101 diner. While the rooms certainly aren't as plush as at the higher category W Hotel, the Best Western Plus offers good value with better facilities than nearby independent motels.

This 160-room hotel within a 10-minute walk of both Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood Boulevard is a clean, mid-range option. Rooms are modern if a bit generic, and guests on lower floors may experience some traffic noise at night. Property features include a small outdoor pool, a restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, a bar with happy hour specials, and a 24-hour snack shop. It's a decent value, aside from its high fee for valet parking – though families may prefer the nearby Magic Castle for its weekend all-ages magic shows, and the Loews Hollywood Hotel has great views and more features often for only slightly higher rates.

While not much to look at from the outside, the 44-room Hollywood City Inn is a clean, well-kept budget hotel in the heart of Hollywood. The hotel is within walking distance of the Walk of Fame and a short drive from many other attractions. Rooms are simple -- with up-to-date technology -- if a little garish in their color palate; another downside is that noise can carry from room to room. The hotel offers free parking and Wi-Fi, and has patio with a pool. Breakfast is also included in room rates, but it's limited to a small selection served in the cramped reception area. 

The budget-friendly 72-room Days Inn Hollywood/Universal Studios has a pool and modern rooms equipped with microwaves and mini-fridges. The hotel is within walking distance of Hollywood attractions and nightlife. The hotel draws families, couples, and business travelers on a budget. For more Hollywood luxury, there’s the Loews Hollywood Hotel up the street directly on the Walk of Fame, but at a much higher price point. The Days Inn lacks a fitness center and full restaurant, but does have a pool and free breakfast.

The Americas Best Value Inn - Los Angeles/Hollywood is a small budget motel. While not in the nicest area of Hollywood, it is a short drive to a number of tourist attractions, such as the Kodak Theater, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Staples Center, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in the vicinity. Rooms are a bit small, but have modern decor, making them a step above most budget accommodations. The motel has a small outdoor pool, free continental breakfast, and free Wi-Fi. 

The Motel 6 is a reliable budget option in the heart of Hollywood. The immediate surroundings are a bit sketchy at night, but travelers willing to stay in this area put themselves a short stroll from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatre, and Hollywood & Highland shopping complex. There are no major facilities, but the hotel offers free coffee, a microwave, vending machines, and coin-operated laundry room. The 125 colorful contemporary rooms have scattered noise issues, but are spacious and clean. All come with mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Note that one pet is allowed free of charge and kids stay free. As an alternative, the nearby Best Western Plus Hollywood Hills Hotel has a pool, breakfast, and rooms with kitchenettes, but it’s a bit farther from Hollywood Boulevard and rates are higher. 

Hollywood La Brea Inn is located in the heart of Hollywood, just a few minutes' walk away from the Walk of Fame and many other tourist attractions, restaurants, and shops. This motel-like property offers 40 budget guest rooms equipped with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and refrigerators. But rooms are seriously dated, and there's little soundproofing. On-site parking is free -- a plus point in traffic-dense Hollywood -- and there's an outdoor hot tub, and a free basic breakfast is included in the room rate. Travelers may also want to consider the historic Hotel Hollywood, a nearby boutique hotel with clean guest rooms at only slightly higher rates.

The Saharan Motor Hotel is a gritty budget hotel along Los Angeles's Sunset Strip. Rooms are brightly painted and well-decorated, but range in their level of cleanliness and disrepair. While inexpensive and located within walking distance of many Hollywood attractions, the hotel is in an unpleasant part of town, next to a head shop and a strip club. On-site amenities include free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and an outdoor pool. 

The 27-room Rodeway Inn is a straightforward budget motel in the heart of Hollywood. It's just a short walk from the Chinese Theater, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and other Hollywood Boulevard attractions, but the neighborhood can feel seedy. Rooms are moderately sized, bright, and clean, though the furniture is obviously not new. The motel has a small pool, (a somewhat meager) free continental breakfast, and free Wi-Fi.
