Bottom Line

The two-pearl Prado Apartments are clean and basic vacation rentals in central Madrid, with attractions, clubs, restaurants, and more all within walking distance. Almost all are large enough to accommodate families and groups, between the bedrooms and sofa beds, and all apartments have full kitchens. Rooms are updated, with Ikea-style furnishings, but do look lived-in, with wear and tear evident on the furniture, floors, and drapes. There is free Wi-Fi and airport transportation for a fee, but this property does not provide parking, facilities, or daily housekeeping.

Prado Apartamentos

Scene

Private apartments in a lively neighborhood

Since the Prado Apartments are just that, apartments, there isn’t a discernible front desk area and there are special check-in instructions; guests must contact the property prior to arrival. The apartments are in a loud area with lots of clubs and activity so light sleepers may have trouble. Wood flooring, black metal railings, and white walls decorate the hallways and staircases, while the exterior is plain and tan. From the outside, the building definitely looks like it houses apartments and many guests remark that it’s difficult to figure out how to get in, even with the instructions. There is an elevator, but the building is not well suited for those with disabilities.

Location

In the Barrio de las Letras neighborhood, within walking distance of central Madrid sights

The highlight of the Prado Apartments is their central location in Madrid's Barrio de las Letras neighborhood, with shopping, clubs, museums, art galleries, public transportation, and restaurants all within walking distance. Attractions such as the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Monumental Theatre, and Puerta del Sol are also just a few minutes away on foot. The hotel has no parking facilities, so a rental car would be difficult to have here.

Rooms

Ikea-style apartments with full kitchens, living areas, and some wear and tear

The lodgings at the Prado Apartments are exactly what you’d expect from a vacation rental-style property. The furnishings are simple but modern, with an Ikea aesthetic; the wood floors, sofa beds, and colorful chairs make the room feel like a regular European flat, although the upholstery and curtains are a bit worn. Ikea-style full kitchens are in each unit in addition to washing machines, coffeemakers, toasters, and air conditioning. There’s even cookware, dishes, and utensils. Some rooms also have outdoor terraces.

Bedrooms are similarly plain, with little to no artwork, white sheets, and black metal bed frames. Some bedrooms have a glass block feature in the wall, which may be a privacy issue for some, while others have large windows. Flat-screen TVs are in some rooms or in the common areas, and there are only showers, no tubs, in the bathrooms. Bathrooms are more exciting than the common spaces, with tan or black tile and frosted glass on the showers; however, some are small. There are heated towel racks, but no toiletries. Due to the location near lots of nightlife, many apartments can get street noise at night.
