Bottom Line

The Seaclub Mediterranean Resort is an upper-middle-range, low-rise apartment complex set in extensive grounds in the popular Port d'Alcudia resort. The immediate surrounds are made up of mostly quiet waterways, while the long sandy beach, dining, and nightlife are all within 10 minutes on foot. Its 440 studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments are contemporary with simple cooking facilities, outdoor space, and spacious bathrooms, though Wi-Fi is not always free of charge. Buffet dining is adequate if not outstanding, though there's plenty of snack bars and two supermarkets. Seven pools and an excellent kids' club mean younger guests are kept happy, though beyond an adults-only pool, grown-ups might feel short-changed. All-in-all most families will find plenty to enjoy here though for a full-on child-focused resort, the nearby Club MAC Alcudia has direct waterpark access -- but be prepared for noisy crowds.

Seaclub Mediterranean Resort

Scene

Large family-friendly apartment complex with sunny Mediterranean feel

A gently-tinkling water feature, clusters of pretty flowers, and the hotel name spelt out in a jumble of rocks contribute to a pleasant arrival experience at the Seaclub Mediterranean Resort. Those positive first impressions continue into the tall and sunny reception building; refurbished in 2015, it's a bright and airy space where floor-to-ceiling windows, reclaimed wood furnishings, and colorful glazed tiles create a cheerful, vacation mood. The sheer size of the complex, however, takes a while to appreciate. Made up of four main areas set in over 12 acres (50,000 square meters) of grounds, it feels more akin to a village than a resort hotel. This can mean a bit of a trek from the farther-out accommodation to the main block. The several dozen apartment blocks are spread over just two floors with whitewashed walls, wide arches, and terra-cotta tile roofs adding to an attractive Mediterranean-villa look.

This independent family-owned resort is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to 1,500 guests over high season among its manicured lawns, seven pools, various play areas, and semi-shaded gardens. The all-apartment complex also features a separate exclusive adults-only area set apart from the main grounds of the hotel, though families with younger children make up the bulk of the clientele, with lots of repeat guests from Scandinavia and the U.K.

Location

Set among the waterways of Port d'Alcudia, walking distance from beach and nightlife

The Seaclub Mediterranean Resort is surrounded by a series of waterways that characterize this laid-back neighborhood of hotels and apartment blocks, set just off the main road to central Port d'Alcudia. While it's around a five-minute drive from the buzzing resort center, there's no shortage of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the property, including the lively nightlife of "Dollar Street" (the nickname for Pere Mas i Reus). Alcudia Bay's long sandy beach with its particularly calm and shallow water is also less than 10 minutes on foot. A waterpark is around the same distance, while the medieval cobbled streets of Alcudia's old town are a 10-minute drive. Situated at the opposite end of the island, the capital of Palma and its Palma de Mallorca Airport are up to an hour by road.

Rooms

Bright contemporary apartments with balconies, terraces, or small gardens

The 440 air-conditioned units break down into six main types: Studios, Studio Suites, One- and Two-Bedroom Apartments, and Premium, and Garden Apartments. Adults-only Serenity units are also available. All were updated between 2015-17 with a clean modern finish that combines flagstone-style floors, crisp white walls, and a mix of simple contemporary and rustic furniture. Color-coded front doors and glazed tiling (in red, yellow, blue, and green) refer to which of the four areas the apartment is located. All open to either spacious balconies or terraces (mostly with garden or pool views) or small lawned gardens with loungers and picnic tables.

All include kitchenettes with fridges, electric burners, microwaves, toasters, and kettles, with Suite- and Premium-level apartments adding espresso coffee machines. Living rooms also include 32- or 40-inch flat-screen TVs with a good selection of English-speaking channels, sofa-beds, and dining areas. Spacious modern bathrooms have walk-in showers (Premiums with rainfall showerheads), wall-mounted hairdryers, and hotel-brand toiletries. In-room Wi-Fi is free in selected rooms but charged in others, but speed is generally good.

Features

Wide range of child-friendly facilities, numerous pools, and choice of dining plans

Each of the resort's four sections is centered around a large swimming pool, most of which are tiered into sections including those for young children. There are also several separate splash pools, with one for babies, and a small adults-only pool (with Bali-beds and set well away from any noisy children). Most of the areas also include play areas and large sandpits surrounded by plenty of lawn space. A kids' club is also free to guests (open to children 4 and up and offering supervision) with a ball-pit, soft playroom, and daily-changing activities. There's also a program for older children and teens over the summer, with more sports-related fun, plus early evening kids' entertainment. Although there's no real spa for the adults, a small treatment room offers a limited menu of nail services and massages. There is also a gym, and regular fitness classes took place on the lawn during our visit, plus tennis and volleyball courts are on hand.

Renovated in 2016/17, the hotel's main dining area is a bright and spacious buffet restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Diners are allocated tables each time upon arrival, which can mean queues at busier times. Breakfast service includes an omelet station, bean-to-cup coffee machines, and freshly made pancakes and smoothies. Other meals offer show cooking with fish and meat options, though while variety is generally good, we found food quality could be inconsistent. There are also four bars dotted around the complex serving drinks and snacks, and two on-site supermarkets for self caterers. Plans ranging from bed-and-breakfast, half- and full-board, and up to all-inclusive are also available. Wi-Fi is available, but it's not free to all guests.
