Chateau de la Roque is a historic 16th-century mansion in the French countryside that’s surrounded by forest, animals, and a pond. The edifice’s original stonework and wood details add charm while the antique lobby furniture is plush and cozy. Exceptionally well-kept gardens surround the property and can be seen through the hotel’s windows, with vintage furnishings, artwork, and lamps adding to the relaxed vibe. The dining room, restaurant, and breakfast room feature snug seating areas in reds and blues. Guests include those visiting Normandy and WWII attractions as well as travelers looking for a quiet weekend in the country.

Nestled on 45 acres of farmland, Chateau de la Roque is quiet and picturesque. Local farms and forest areas surround the hotel, and a few restaurants and shops are a four-minute drive southeast in Hébécrevon. It also resides halfway between Le Mont Saint-Michel (one hour) and the D-Day sites Arromanches (48 minutes) and Omaha Beach (32 minutes). The center of Saint-Lô is a 12-minute drive southeast. A rental car is a must since there’s no public transportation from the hotel to cities or attractions.

Each room at the Chateau includes a flat-screen TV, welcome tray, coffeemaker, and lovely views of the property. The beds receive high marks for comfort and the overall color schemes of red, blue, cream, and gold are calming and vintage-inspired. Antique-style wallpaper decorates each room as do wood beams. Historic wood chairs add extra seating. However, units only have a tub or shower, and in some units the bathroom and bedroom are in the same room. A tiny separator breaks the space between toilet, tub, and bed, which may be a privacy issue for some. Additionally, certain bathrooms are a bit dated with powder-blue '70s decor.

Inside the Chateau’s basement vault is a wonderful spa that includes a hot tub, a steam bath, massages, and facials. Beautiful original stone walls and wood beams add historic appeal while the area's tiling and color palette are modern and intriguing. An on-site restaurant has host service and serves homemade meals family-style, but the venue isn't open year round. Additionally, a breakfast room houses a daily morning repast that receives excellent reviews from guests. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, but some may have an issue with connectivity. Pets are allowed by request.
