Scene

Beautiful lawns, golden sand beach, and overall laid-back vibe

The Aston Kaanapali is spacious and relaxed with plenty of spots for sunbathing, including beautifully kept lawns with lounge chairs, a lovely beach, and two pools with spa tubs. The pools are surrounded by huge palm trees and stone decks without a great deal of shade, unless guests rent one of the small cabanas. Guests lounging poolside have a gorgeous panoramic ocean view. The casual pool bar and Beach Club Restaurant & Bar have indoor and outdoor seating and are family-friendly. Humpback whales have been spotted right offshore, not to mention surfers. The grounds are lush and tropical, with koi ponds and waterfalls, stone footpaths, and ocean vistas, which make the resort an ideal place for a wedding party or other special event.Inside the lobby, the atmosphere remains laid-back, with colorful local artwork adorning walls. A lending library features comfy bamboo furniture. The low-key vacation vibe makes the resort a peaceful place to return to after a day of active sightseeing, golfing, and other Hawaiian adventures.

Location

Near shopping areas, golfing, and phenomenal scuba diving

Aston Kaanapali Shores is located a short drive north of Lahaina, in a quiet area just off the main road that feels remote but is actually convenient to shopping and dining. A small strip mall is just across the street. Whaler's Village, a shopping destination, is more than a couple of miles south. The championship golf courses at Kapalua and Kaanapali, north and south respectively, are close by as well via car. And there are nearby marine sanctuaries with spectacular snorkeling and diving opportunities. Morning views of the ocean from the rooms and grounds are breathtaking. Kahului Airport is almost an hour’s drive southeast around the West Maui Forest Reserve.

Rooms

Rooms, studios, and suites with island decor and private lanais

Rooms, studios, and suites at the Aston Kaanapali vary in decor according to individual owners’ tastes, but all are clean, spacious, and done in relaxed island style, with wicker and rattan furniture, Hawaiian quilt art, and pineapple-motif lighting fixtures. All units are air-conditioned and come with PlayStation 3 Blu-Ray consoles. The lobby offers a DVD kiosk with free movies and games for guests to borrow; some rooms have small TVs. Studios and suites have kitchens and furnished private lanais, and suites come with washer/dryers. Bathrooms are clean with shower/tub combos.

Features

Active and fun, with plenty of room to veg out by the water; kids' club and gym also available

Aston Kaanapali Shores is a fun resort without being all programmed activity, all the time. There’s a year-round kids' club, and evening entertainment includes popular Polynesian shows. In-room or outdoor ocean-view massages are available as well. The fitness center has plenty of equipment, but ceilings are low, and the windows look onto the parking lot. Guests must pay a fee for gym access, but use of the tennis courts is free. The resort rents out beach equipment, kayaks, and scooters, and there are barbecue grills on the grounds for guests who want to cook out.
