Among the apartment-style hotel options in central Melbourne, City Tempo is one of the more popular among previous travelers. That's due to its fresh and modern style, and well-kept interiors, as well as the great location at the northern edge of the CBD. Guests enter through sliding glass doors into a small, but bright, lobby decorated with dark carpeted floors and colorful mirrored walls. There are a few cozy seating areas that are usually occupied by guests waiting for people, but otherwise there are no other common areas. The hotel mostly caters to short-stay business travelers in town for meetings or conferences, making it an unsuitable choice for those hoping to meet other travelers. During the week, mosts guests are corporate travelers, while tourists tend to stay on the weekends.

City Tempo is located on the very northern edge of the CBD in the heart of Melbourne. It sits on the corner of two big roads, which can be busy during the day, but quiet at night. It's conveniently located for both tourists and business travelers, but there's not a great deal of attractions in the immediate area. There's a coffee shop next door and a convenience store down the road, plus some restaurant and bars within walking distance. Public transport is easily accessible, with a tram stop right outside and Melbourne Central Railway Station just a five-minute walk away. Queen Victoria Market is also five minutes away on foot, while Melbourne University is a 15-minute walk. The bars of Southbank and The Crown Casino Entertainment Complex can be reached in around 15 minutes by tram, while St. Kilda Beach is a 35-minute tram ride away. Melbourne Airport is roughly a 30-minute drive, depending on traffic.

The hotel consists of 160 self-contained one-bedroom apartments and studios with pleasantly contemporary interiors. All are compact and similarly designed, though color schemes differ on each floor. The decor is minimalist, with white walls, gray carpets, colorful accent walls, wood-finish furniture, glass-topped coffee tables, and contemporary artwork hanging on the walls. Some apartments have furnished balconies with views of Queen Victoria Market, while others overlook Queen Street. All apartments are well-equipped for short stays, with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, digital music players, electric kettles, and small kitchenettes with stovetops, microwaves, dishwashers, and fridges. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay extra for in-room Wi-Fi here. In-room laundry facilities are available, but not in all apartments. White-tiled bathrooms are clean, but on the small side, with glass-enclosed showers and free toiletries. 

City Tempo lacks a restaurant and breakfast service, though all apartments have modern kitchenettes with sufficient appliances to make a meal. Guests have free access to a sauna and basic fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights. Not every apartment has a washer and dryer, but there are coin-operated laundry facilities. Hotel services include a 24-hour front desk, concierge, and car services for a fee. On-site parking is available, but this costs extra and spaces are limited. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and public areas, though there's an extra charge in rooms.
