Heading to Miami for business? There are a few things to keep in mind before booking a hotel — business facilities, Wi-Fi costs, and whether the atmosphere is for professionals or partiers. A team of Oyster reporters spent weeks exploring the top hotels in Miami. We slept in the beds, ate in the restaurants, tested the service, and scoped out the neighborhoods, all with an eye toward selecting the most distinguished properties. Here’s a list of our favorite business hotels in Miami

1

Kimpton EPIC Hotel

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

Opened in 2009 by the Kimpton hotel group, this is a relaxed, luxurious alternative to humdrum Downtown business hotels like the Hyatt or Intercontinental. With in-room desktop computers, a prime downtown location, and some of the best service in the area, the Epic is an excellent choice for business travelers. The guest rooms and suites start on the 18th floor, so that every guest can enjoy breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay or the soaring glass towers in the area while relaxing in the hotel's well-equipped rooms. The broad terrace, the three pools and the excellent Italian restaurant on the 16th floor are worth checking out.

2

Four Seasons Hotel Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

Rooms date back to 2003, but with two acres of rooftop pools (Downtown's best), the city's top gym -- Sports Club/LA -- in the building, and the above-and-beyond service that the Four Seasons is known for, this is a premier choice for Miami's boring business district.

3

Hotel Beaux Arts Autograph Collection

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

Located on the topmost floors of the JW Marriott building, the 44-room Hotel Beaux Arts is even more upscale than theMarquis. Though its shared facilities with the Marquis may detract from its intimate, boutique feel, guests do have a specialcheck-in area in the lobby, and the hotel is ultra luxe: all rooms have flat-screen TVs and iPads, the bathrooms are marble with separate bathtubs and showers, the decor is sleek (cherry wood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, plush beds, minimalist furniture), and the views are amazing.

4

Mandarin Oriental, Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

The Mandarin Oriental's location on beautiful Brickell Key is convenient to Miami's corporate offices, and the hotel's extremely comfortable beds with high thread count sheets will help ensure a good night's sleep before a busy day. The hotel also has a gorgeous spa and a fitness center to help you relax after a long day of meetings and business meals. However, save some room in your stomach (and some dollars in your pocket) for the classy and delectable restaurant Azul.

5

JW Marriott Marquis Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

The 313-room JW Marriott Marquis is reminiscent of a luxury hotel in Vegas: Everything is big, from the light fixtures to thebathrooms, and the array of amenities is so extensive guests might not have to leave the premises -- there are threerestaurants, a pool, a basketball court, a virtual bowling alley, a 3D theater room, a golf school, and a huge fitness center. A good choice for business travelers, the hotel is one of the most modern hotels in Downtown Miami, and all rooms come equipped with desktop computers and giant 52-inch flat-screen TVs.

6

Fontainebleau

Miami Beach, Florida, United States

After its $1 billion facelift in 2008, the Fontainebleau's 1,504 new rooms, nine pools, phenomenal spa and gorgeous design are hard to top. Despite its sexy ads and nightclub, it's a relaxed property that attracts mostly families and convention goers. Its peaceful Miami Beach location - next to the also snazzy Eden Roc hotel - is 30 blocks from the South Beach action.

7

InterContinental Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

This huge 641-room downtown tower has been regularly renovated -- the lobby was redone in 2008, and guestrooms were refreshed in 2012. With its attentive (though somewhat overwhelmed) service, decent pool and reasonable gym and spa, it consistently attracts a busy crowd of business travelers and families

8

Conrad Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

Taking up 17 floors of a 36-story skyscraper downtown, this Hilton luxury offshoot has some swanky touches -- a rooftop pool, a top-notch spa and gym, 500-thread-count linens, and spacious standard rooms. The Conrad also has a great restaurant and The Bar at LvL 25 has sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and is a popular spot for happy hour. It should be noted that the hotel is geared toward business travelers so families wanting to spend time on the beach should look elsewhere.

9

JW Marriott Miami

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

A fine-tuned hospitality machine, Miami's JW Marriott nears perfection -- flawless service, comfortable rooms, and great amenities. (Or at least it beats the Conrad, Hilton's competition down the road.) Sure, it's styled like an office building (rooms even come equipped with desktop computers), but that makes it easy to get some work done.

10

Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay

Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States

This 601-room Downtown Marriott is a cheaper alternative to other business hotels in the area, but it features similar amenities and has all the essential comforts. The hotel has a modern staffed business center with desktop computers, printers and fax machines, a heated outdoor pool looking over Biscayne Bay, a brand-new fitness center with beautiful views, and free Wi-Fi throughout the complex. Renovated in December 2008, all rooms have spacious balconies, comfortable beds, and large, functional work spaces. Start the day with the hotel's good breakfast buffet and don't miss the bay-view deck.

11

Hilton Miami Airport Blue Lagoon

Miami Airport and Vicinity, Miami, Florida, United States

This upscale 500-room Hilton has more amenities and style than many other airport hotels, and its slightly higher price point reflects these differences. Guest rooms and suites are simple but attractive, with heavy wood furniture, crisp white bedding, and balconies with lagoon or skyline views (in some). Travelers who have time to take advantage of the features -- including a lively lobby bar, huge outdoor pool, varied fitness facilities, and light-filled business center with flat-screen computers -- may find the extra expense worth it.
