Bottom Line

The five-room Desert Hills Bed and Breakfast is a cozy retreat popular with couples and families who appreciate its proximity to downtown Moab. Comfy Southwestern-style rooms feature flat-screen TVs with DVD players and have en-suite bathrooms. There are a shared living room, a kitchen, and cozy dining room, where the owners, who live on-site, serve breakfast. There's also a patio with a hot tub and La Sal Mountain views. The intimate atmosphere, though, doesn’t suit all guests; those seeking a little more privacy may prefer one of the bungalows at the Desert Hills Bed and Breakfast.

Scene

Charming family-owned bed-and-breakfast with Southwestsern decor

The Desert Hills Bed and Breakfast offers a rural vacation in view of Moab’s beautiful La Sal Mountains and primarily attracts families and couples. Owners Vic and Anna, with their young son Andre, bought the bed-and-breakfast in 2008. The two-floor home -- with a brick bottom floor -- is shaded by pine trees and there's a small sign on the roadside that can be difficult to see in the dark. The front door is framed by a vine-covered trellis and there's a gravel parking lot. The cozy living room has a familial feel, with pine sofas with Southwestern upholstery, a tube TV, potted plants, and a window looking out onto the wooded property. There are also board games and cards for guests to borrow as well as a laptop computer in one corner corner.

Location

Quiet South Moab location near downtown

The Desert Hills Bed and Breakfast is just off of a dirt road in a residential area, and is close to downtown Moab and its attractions, but still peaceful. Walking to Moab’s Golf Course takes 20 minutes. It’s an 11-minute drive to downtown Moab’s restaurants, shops, and gas stations. Adrift Adventures, which offers boat trips, is also an 11-minute drive. It’s an 18-minute car trip to the Arches National Park. Canyonlands National Park takes 45 minutes by car, while driving to Dead Horse Point State Park takes 50 minutes.

Rooms

Comfy Southwestern rooms with pine details, flat-screen TVs, and DVD players

The Family Suite features a living room, a sofa bed, two bedrooms, and direct patio access. All rooms come with Wi-Fi, mini-flashlights, flip-flops, flat-screen TVs, DVD players with free movies, mini-fridges, bathrobes, and irons/ironing boards. The house has central air-conditioning, and all rooms have ceiling fans. Small bathrooms come with shower/tub combos and toiletries. The Sunset Room has a rainfall showerhead and whirlpool tub. Room service is available.
