Mercure properties aren't the most stylish chain that we've encountered, and for better or worse this Munich outpost fits right in with the brand. The hotel building itself is fairly uninspiring from the outside, and looks like any other chain hotel, but the vibrant red interiors are at least eye-catching, with a cozy lounge bar and spacious Bavarian beer garden. The style throughout the hotel is a mix of traditional and contemporary accents, though nothing is particularly remarkable. It's popular with couples, and some families. Location is its real selling point, as it's set among plenty of bars and restaurants near the Hauptbahnhof U-Bahn station. As such, while travelers may hang out in the lounge or beer garden in the evening, don't expect much on-site action during the day.

Located in West Munich, a six-minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof U-Bahn train station, this hotel is a great base for exploring the city’s main attractions. From the hotel it’s a seven-minute journey by public transport to Odeonsplatz, and 11 minutes to Hofbrauhaus, the famous 16th-century Beer Hall. Maximiliansplatz, with its bars and nightclubs, is 12 minutes away. It’s a 14-minute journey on the S-Bahn to the Deutsche Museum, and a 15-minute drive to the popular Viktaulienmart, a daily food market in the center of Munich. Getting farther afield is simple as well, with the quaint Bavarian town of Schliersee only an hours' drive away. Munich Airport is a 40-minute drive, depending on traffic or around an hour on the airport bus.

The rooms at this Mercure Hotel are spacious, with rich red and gold decor, and dark wood furniture. Privilege Rooms include a chaise lounge, wardrobe with hangers, a good-size desk and chair, coffee table, and luggage rack. These rooms also include free minibars and espresso machines. Modern features across all categories include LCD televisions, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, docking stations, electric kettles, and electronic safes. Bathrooms have showers, but no tubs. Above the sinks, there are vanity mirrors, and all include toiletries, bathrobes, slippers, and hairdryers. Since the hotel is located in an area with several bars and nightclubs, it’s worth noting that street noise might be an issue in some rooms. Keep in mind that smoking rooms are available as well. 

The Mercure Hotel has a good range of facilities that keep with the brands' standards. An attractive restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, and includes a gluten-free menu. The cozy hotel bar has a good selection of spirits, non-alcoholic drinks, and a coffee machine. A large Bavarian beer garden provide plenty of wooden tables and chairs, and is a great place to unwind in warmer weather. It's also one of the few authentically German aspects of this otherwise anonymously styled hotels. A small lobby lounge has a tea and coffee machine, and computers are available for guest use. The hotel has six meeting rooms, with the largest coming in at 80 square meters (861 square feet). Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and public indoor parking is available for a fee.
