Bottom Line

If not for the crowds on Platys Gialos Beach, the upper-middle-range Acrogiali Hotel would be a quiet place, sheltered somewhat from the traffic and high winds common elsewhere on the island. And though it's crowded, the beach is still the hotel's best feature, but guests may have to put up with paying for sun loungers and umbrellas if the allotted free section is full. The 70 rooms are pleasant and each has a balcony or semi-private patio, but some are due for an update. There's a restaurant and bar serving Greek and Italian fare, plus a free breakfast buffet in the morning. Travelers seeking something with a pool might want to consider the nearby Nissaki Hotel, which has an outdoor infinity pool and views over the nearby Psarou Beach.

Scene

Beachfront hotel with classic Cycladic decor

Parts of the Acrogiali Hotel were renovated in 2014 (along with some rooms), with more updates forthcoming, but the property retains its classic Cycladic style decor. Stone pathways cut between hardy eucalyptus and palm trees and connect the classically bright white buildings, which feature charming blue windows and doors. Inside the lobby, a more minimalist and modern take on the same style pervades, with rough-cut stone exterior walls meeting sparse white spaces and recessed accent lighting. Ornamentation is generally in monochrome: A range of gray throw pillows soften the bench seating, while clusters of white bowls grace the coffee tables. A few sculptures and reliefs give a nod to the area's history.

Location

Right on Platys Gialos Beach, close to bars and restaurants

The hotel is on Platys Gialos Beach near a dock where private-hire boats can ferry guests to other harbors on Mykonos and several other beaches such as Paranga, Paradise, and Super Paradise. Bars and restaurants line the beach, with more upscale dining near Psarou Beach (a five-minute drive away), where it’s not uncommon to spot a celebrity. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the shopping, dining, and sightseeing of Mykonos Town. The airport is 12 minutes away by car, or guests can utilize the hotel's free shuttle.

Rooms

Pleasant rooms with white minimalist decor and furnished balconies or patios

The hotel's 70 air-conditioned rooms come with either garden or sea views as well as balconies or semi-private patios. The garden views consist largely of the eucalyptus and palm-lined paths that run through the property, providing quieter, if less impressive vistas. Rooms with updated decor are predominately white, with gray accents and the odd painting adding a subtle pop of color above the bed, while some older rooms still have a dated neutral look with wood furnishings that depart from the classic Cycladic palate. Each room has a desk and chair, along with a mini-fridge and a flat-screen TV. The bathrooms have white and black tiled floors with simple marble vanities, and either shower/tub combos or rainfall showers.

Features

Beach with guest sun loungers, open-air restaurant and bar, and free breakfast

Space is at a premium on this stretch of beach, and the hotel has a reserved section of loungers and umbrellas that are free to guests. If this gets filled up, there is another area (also open to non-guests) for a fee. Atlantida restaurant and bar has discounts for guests, and serves Greek and Italian cuisine with a focus on seafood. It offers open-air dining on a terrace that overlooks the beach, and a free American breakfast buffet is served daily. Free airport shuttle service is available, plus Wi-Fi and on-site parking are free.
