Bottom Line

The Myconian Utopia Resort is a five-pearl retreat that merges elegant, modern design with excellent dining and beautiful hilltop views of the Aegean. The 50 airy rooms are fine examples of contemporary design and craftsmanship, with options for outdoor hot tubs or private pools. Well-heeled travelers can arrive by boat or at the hotel's helipad to indulge in the resort's luxurious spa and scenic outdoor pool, or frolic along the reserved stretch of Elia Beach below. Amenities at the Myconian Imperial Hotel & Thalasso Spa Centre (as well as three other nearby sister properties) are available to guests, though some may find the uphill location slightly inconvenient, not to mention far from everything else on the island.

Scene

Fine craftsmanship and modern design overlooking the Aegean

Once at the hotel's hilltop entrance, guests can get a glimpse of the property's stunning views from behind a fashionably rough-cut stone wall that serves as the hotel's main signage. A welcome drink of prosecco or a fresh juice is given within the chic lobby, filled with contemporary art and natural materials. The front desk is a large slab of marble atop a wooden frame with transparent acrylic stools seated before it that contain charred wooden logs. Impressive figurative sculptures made of wire can be found seated or standing around hand-carved rustic wood furnishings, and a sense of refined craftsmanship pervades the entire resort. Guests are luxury-seeking leisure travelers, typically couples and friends, and can often be seen lounging poolside, where neutral-tone sunbeds are shaded by canary-yellow umbrellas, and the infinity edge appears to drop off into the Aegean Sea.

Location

On a hill above a private section of Elia Beach

The hotel is isolated on a steep hill above Elia Beach near dining and amenities at other Myconian sister hotels. It's an inconvenient walk to the other hotels or the beach below, but there's also a free shuttle option to ferry guests around. Several other beaches are within a 30-minute drive and it’s a 25-minute ride to the shopping, dining, nightlife, and sightseeing of Mykonos Town on the hotel’s free shuttle. Both the port and Mykonos Island National Airport are about a 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

Stylish rooms with sea views, some with private hot tubs or plunge pools

Each of the hotel's 50 large rooms have views of the Aegean Sea. Decor varies between three tiers, but the common thread is an elegant modern design with a black and white palette, and increasing amounts of beautiful hand-crafted wood furnishings in the pricier rooms. Each comes standard with free Wi-Fi, 55-inch satellite flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, safes, ironing facilities, and minibars. Furnished balconies or patios vary in size with outdoor hot tubs and plunge pools as more extravagant options. The bathrooms vary from subdued shower-tub combos and natural wood vanities, to others with sleek black-tiled rainfall showers and in-room handcrafted stone soaking tubs. Luxurious Molton Brown toiletries come as standard, as do beach towels, and robes and slippers.

Features

Outdoor infinity pool, full-service spa, beach access, alfresco restaurant, and free breakfast

The resort's best features are centered around its majestic outdoor infinity pool, with comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas set between tall trees on the surrounding sun deck. An open-air pool bar serves coffee and cocktails, along with Greek wine and the fine-dining Pavilion Restaurant utilizes locally sourced ingredients (especially fish, Greek yogurt, fruit, and honey) in its contemporary Mediterranean cuisine. A free breakfast is included daily, with indoor or alfresco seating options. For indoor relaxing, the spa has the usual range of massages along with warm seashell treatments and other more exotic pampering. It also has indoor heated saltwater thalassotherapy pools and a steam bath, as well as a fitness room with a handful of state-of-the-art cardio machines. Below the hotel, a section of Elia Beach is reserved for guests -- umbrellas and sunbeds included. Staff can arrange helicopter charters, luxury yachts, and car rentals, along with speedboat transportation to nearby beaches.
