Dating back to 1912, the Craftsman Bungalow is a beautiful off-white craftsman house with rust-colored trim fronted by its own small vineyard. The main common areas are the house's living room and dining room, with dark floors, partially wood-paneled walls, and pocket windows. Plush couches wrap around a grand piano and fireplace in the cozy living room with rich wood cabinetry indicative of the style. The property is best suited to vacationing couples, and guests with children should note that some rooms are for adults only. 

The Craftsman Inn is on Highway 128, which runs along one side of Napa Valley, but is somewhat insulated from traffic on a leafy hillside. It's convenient to Calistoga's main street, which is  lined with shops, restaurants, and antique dealers. The town is surrounded by Napa Valley vineyards and the Palisade Mountains, and there are numerous wineries within a short driving distance. California’s Old Faithful Geyser and the Petrified Forest are both within a quick drive from the hotel. San Francisco is about a two-hour drive to the south.

All five rooms have queen-size wooden sleigh beds and contemporary neutral decor that draws out the house's turn-of-the-century details and rich wood furnishings. Beyond that, each room differs in size and layout, and some have private patios. Larger rooms have sitting areas with leather couches. Two of the rooms (Spring and Howell) can be combined for families, but guests who don't rent both out together should note that some noise travels between the two. All rooms are outfitted with flat-screen TVs with DVD players and come with free Wi-Fi. Tile bathrooms have modern fixtures and either walk-in showers or shower/jetted tub combos, and a couple (Diamond and Helena) have jetted tubs big enough for two.

The homemade breakfast is the daily focal point and gathering place at the intimate inn, with a large banquet table laid out a changing menu of homemade goods until reasonably late in the morning. Typical items include freshly baked scones, homemade granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit along with a hot dish of the day. Guests can take breakfast in the Craftsman-style dining room, or outside on the front porch. There's a back patio and a small cabana set up in the yard, both quiet spots to enjoy the free afternoon wine and cookies.
