Edgewater Beach Hotel

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

Set along a seven-mile strip of white sandy beach, the 125 rooms here -- each with a kitchenette that has a coffeemaker and full-sized fridge though no stove -- are designed to hold between four and six people. The units are laid out like small condominiums, with pull-out couches and separate living rooms in most. The beach-view rooms are especially pleasant, guests say, while there are also complaints that some of the non-renovated rooms contain shabby furniture. Two heated outdoor pools, one large and one small, buffer the hotel from the beach, and the property sits within walking distance of convenience stores and restaurant options.

The Ritz-Carlton, Naples

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

The five-pearl Ritz-Carlton, Naples is a true luxury resort in a spectacular private beachfront setting. For those who can afford the steep rates, it offers VIP service and a top-notch array of amenities. Its 420 guest rooms are elegant and stylish, but not overly luxurious or opulent, with 42-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, iPod docs, terrycloth robes, and marble bathrooms with Asprey bath products. Many units have private balconies with waterfront views. Among the hotel's excellent lineup of features include two large pools (one that’s adults-only), a massive spa and and fitness center, and seven dining options. Travelers looking to spend a bit less but still want an upscale stay on the beach can consider the luxury Naples Grande Beach Resort.

3

Hilton Naples

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

The grounds of Hilton Naples hotel conjure those of an ‘80s-inflected Spanish villa -- grandiose, with a few dated touches. Guests comment that the beds in the 199 rooms are comfortable and the amenities, which include a large fitness center and fairly pricey steakhouse, generally outweigh the inconvenience of the property’s distance from the beach and slightly outmoded aesthetic. There’s also free shuttle service to the beach with free towels, lounge chairs, and water. The hotel is situated a short walk from a luxury pedestrian shopping mall as well.

4

Vanderbilt Beach Resort

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

Situated in directly on the Gulf of Mexico in southwest Naples, this straightforward three-and-a-half-pearl hotel has been family owned and operated since 1968. Its 32 modern rooms range from efficiencies with kitchenettes to two-bedroom condos with full kitchens. Some rooms have a reasonably modern tropical-home style while others look a bit more dated. The property is home to one of the area’s most popular fine-dining restaurants, the Turtle Club, and is frequented mostly by couples and families. Features include tennis courts, a heated outdoor pool, and beach activities, but there is no spa or gym. For something with a fitness room and similar style, the Edgewater Beach Resort is down the coast a bit farther, though rates will be higher.

Naples Grande Beach Resort

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

The Naples Grande Beach Resort is a huge upscale beach and golf resort set in mangroves lining Florida's Gulf Coast. Most of the 474 classically decorated rooms and suites are located in the main 18-story building, and those on higher floors have lovely views of the Gulf. There are also 50 Garden Villas out in the grounds, near the Hibiscus Hideaway lap pool. The resort offers a huge array of features for families, couples, and convention delegates, including three pools (one with a huge waterslide), a spa with its own separate villa for group spa treatments, a huge array of indoor and outdoor meeting space, multiple bars and restaurants, a big fitness center, and 15 tennis courts. While it's really at the top of its game in terms of facilities, travelers looking for something more intimate may want to consider the Hyatt Coconut Plantation instead.

Charter Club Resort of Naples Bay

Naples, Southwest Gulf Coast, Florida, United States

The 33-room Charter Club Resort of Naples Bay is a mid-range time-share property on Naples Bay with restaurants, shops, and the Von Liebig Art Center, a 15-minute walk away. Spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom condos have fully-equipped kitchens, flat-screen TVs, wet bars, and washers/dryers as well as screened-in porches. Some have beautiful water views, but decor is a bit dated and there is no housekeeping. The two outdoor pools and hot tub are waterfront with exceptional views and there is a poolside Tiki hut serving lunches and snacks. This property has a mandatory daily resort fee and the front desk closes early in the evening. For an extra $40 per night, Naples Bay Resort has five pools and a lazy river, nicer rooms, and daily housekeeping.
