Sandyport Beach Resort

Scene

Charming collection of villas in a peaceful setting with an easy-going ambience

Sandyport Beach Resort is composed of colorful villas modeled after the island’s historic Georgian Colonial architecture. The villas are arranged across a beautifully landscaped property and surrounded by a network of canals and lagoons where stingrays and tropical fish can often be spotted. It’s lovely but not luxurious, and generic decor here-and-there occasionally breaks the spell, but overall the resort achieves the relaxed hideaway vibe it’s clearly going for. The lobby is staged with twinkling chandeliers and peach walls. Starfish patterned sofas and beach artwork add a tropical feel to the space.

The resort attracts a fairly even mix of couples and singles. Its romantic setting is perfect for couples looking for a laid-back vacation, while babysitting services, a kids’ pool, and a secure, gated location are all an excellent fit for families. Interconnecting guest rooms also make the resort a popular choice for weddings. The restaurant and poolside bar can get busy, but the property rarely feels crowded.

Location

Secluded location in the Olde Towne at Sandyport Marina Village, surrounded by ample amenities

Sandyport Beach Resort is located within the 144-acre Sandyport Marina Village, a gated marina community set at the western end of Cable Beach. The village has a destination-within-a-destination feel, including a distinct appearance and atmosphere. It’s a convenient set-up with accessible restaurants and shops, but its self-contained nature can leave guests feeling cut off from the rest of the island. The resort is found in the Olde Towne section of this community, a quaint shopping and dining area surrounded by lagoons and waterways. This well-designed, safe community is a nice place for strolling, and there are numerous convenience stores, shops, and restaurants found within walking distance of the resort.

The island’s main attractions are a bit more far-flung, with downtown Nassau a 30-minute drive away and Paradise Island almost 35 minutes away. The airport can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. Self-parking is free at the resort.

Rooms

Cheerful rooms feature distinctive decor, along with coffeemakers and free Wi-Fi

Guest rooms at Sandyport Beach Resort are clean and bright. Their white wicker furniture and deep purple bed skirts and runners give the rooms a slightly contemporary look that's just shy of luxurious. Multicolored pillows and cushions designed by the local Bahama Hand Print company add much needed character, as does eye-catching wall art painted by Bahamian artists like John Paul. All rooms include coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and work desks, and almost all have flat-screen TVs. Electronic safes are stored in roomy closets. Bathrooms are clean but run-of-the-mill, with older fixtures, shower/tub combos with plastic shower curtains, and generic bath products.

Studio rooms include the addition of kitchenettes with mini-fridges, microwaves, and two-burner stovetops. All studios feature extra sitting areas furnished with couches and dining tables with two chairs. Ground floor rooms come with private porches. Suites have separate living rooms with queen sofa beds and dining tables, as well as full kitchens with refrigerators, dishwashers, and ovens. Suites also offer balconies, or porches with direct beach access, in addition to hot tubs and separate showers.

Features

Three picturesque outdoor pools, two serene beaches, and a popular fusion restaurant

Sandyport Beach Resort has excellent features for its price point, starting with three outdoor pools which are grouped together in a small but scenic area of the property dotted with palm trees. One pool is designed to resemble a beach: Its waters are surrounded by soft sand and strung with a volleyball net. Another pool is kid-friendly, featuring a waterslide and shallower waters.

The sands surrounding the pool stretch down to the resort’s lagoon beach, which features views of Sandyport Marina Village. The beach offers widely-spaced loungers and thatch-roofed umbrellas. The resort’s second beach is more of a “true” beach, as it's set on the ocean and part of the island’s larger Cable Beach. It’s a gorgeous strip of sand with loungers and umbrellas. Lush greenery separates the main beach from a slightly elevated area of sand with hammocks, chaise lounges, and beautiful ocean views.

The hotel’s poolside bar, Da Hot Spot, is set in a cute blue-and-white hut on the sands of the lagoon beach. It serves breakfast as well as dinner with advanced request. The property is also home to the independently operated Blue Sail restaurant, which offers Mediterranean French fusion cuisine for lunch and dinner. This innovative restaurant attracts plenty of non-guests, featuring a chic indoor seating area in addition to a breezy terrace overlooking the ocean.

The resort also has a tennis court, and although there is no fitness center, guests can receive discounts to the nearby Club One Fitness Center in Sandyport Marina Village. An elegant white gazebo set at the end of a dramatic wooden dock is often used as a venue for casual weddings.

There’s a large room just off the lobby that's available for meetings and events. The room isn’t particularly modern, but it’s quite pleasant with yellow walls, large windows, and beachy decor. There’s a practical business center in the lobby with two personal computers and printers. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The resort offers a free shopping shuttle to the nearby supermarket once a week. Babysitting services are available with advanced arrangement.
