Scene

Beautiful hotel with modern decor and a welcoming, hospitable family of owners

Hotel Grotta sits on a hill, just above the town of Naxos, with a gorgeous view of the sea and town below. Guests rave about the quality and friendliness of the service, with a personal touch from the family of owners that makes this an easy choice for couples seeking a relaxing vacation. The property is modern and beautiful in all areas. The whitewashed building is typical of the island, with pale-blue accents to distinguish it from neighbors. A lovely courtyard between two buildings of guest rooms is full of bright flowers and has a serene atmosphere. Inside, the lobby is small but pleasant, with a few sofas and shelves of books and travel guides. The space is modest, with decor blending a few pieces of art with pillar candles and simple vases of flowers. Although the atmosphere is familiar, the vibe remains peaceful and quiet.

Location

A convenient spot close to Naxos’ port, as well as shops and restaurants

Hotel Grotta is on the western coast of Naxos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is just north of the city of Naxos, within walking distance of the town and the port. Note, however, that a portion of the 14-minute walk to the center of town is along a dusty, dirt road. A five-minute walk from the hotel, there are a small, rocky beach and a couple of restaurants. An eight-minute walk will bring guests to a lovely pedestrian street full of cute cafes, restaurants, and shops to explore. It is also an eight-minute walk to the Castle of Naxos, and the neighboring Archaeological Museum of Naxos -- sites with rich historical significance to the island. It's a 12-minute walk, or a four-minute drive, to the port, and Naxos Island International Airport is a 10-minute drive away.

Rooms

Modern rooms with gorgeous bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi

Rooms here are modern and fresh, outfitted in a minimalist design. A cool gray and white base gets pale-blue accents in the glass tabletops, vases with fresh white flowers, and beachy artwork. Some rooms have dark-blue furnishings, though both schemes are beautiful and serene. The double or two twin beds have a comfortable mattress and extra pillows. Rooms are on the small side, but there’s enough space for a couple to share comfortably. All rooms have a flat-screen satellite TV, mini-fridge, and free safe. Many of the furnished balconies or terraces have a lovely view of the sea and the distant Temple of Apollo, while others look over the interior courtyard. Bathrooms are sleek and gorgeous, with glass-walled showers that have rainfall showerheads. Hairdryers are provided, and free toiletries include soap, shower gel, shampoo, and lotion.

Features

Delicious free breakfast, an indoor pool, whirlpool, and free Wi-Fi throughout

Limited, but quality amenities include a free breakfast and indoor pool. The scrumptious, Greek breakfast is served buffet style in an attractive room with cool-gray and ivory tones. The wood tables are adorned with small vases of fresh flowers, and large picture windows provide a beautiful view. No other meals are served on-site. A small indoor pool includes rainfall and waterfall features. There are also a whirlpool, steam room, and hammam in the space. It is a beautiful, relaxing spot.

Thoughtful, personal service is the best feature of this hotel. Owners provide free transfer to and from the port, recommendations and reservations for excursions, and help with car, bike, or boat rentals. A free welcome drink and pastry are provided on arrival and free wine is provided in rooms. There is free parking near the hotel, but during the peak season it can be difficult to find a spot. Free, reliable Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
