The Islander Beach Resort’s V-shape architectural design allows most rooms to enjoy beautiful beachfront views. The seven-floor, blue and white building is centered around a large, outdoor pool and has a private wooden staircase that leads to the beach, where skimboarders ride the waves and tourists lounge in chairs. Inside, the lobby is decorated in homey, if dated, decor that includes rattan furniture and blue accent walls in a sea of beige tiling, while hallways have unexciting stucco walls and blue doors. The property attracts mainly older guests as well as travelers with kids.

This beachfront resort is situated on a gorgeous stretch of sand off of a busy four-lane road. There are several restaurants, bars, and shops in the area, as well as banks, a supermarket, and a movie theater within walking distance of the property. It’s a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk to the beach, shops, and dining on Flagler Avenue. The New Smyrna Museum of History is a five-minute drive, while the Smyrna Dunes Park and the historic Turtle Mound take about 15 minutes by car. The Daytona Beach International Airport is a 30-minute drive.

Apartments are decorated in Florida-themed decor, with tropical patterned bedspreads, rattan furniture, and splashes of turquoise paint, that though pleasant, are dated and might not suit all tastes. Windows or private balconies have oceanfront, partial ocean, or parking lot views. Studios offer kitchenettes and sitting areas, while One- and Two-Bedroom Apartments feature living and dining areas separated by counters from the kitchens, which have dishwashers, oven, stoves, microwaves, refrigerators, coffeemakers, toasters, and blenders. Bathrooms have old-fashioned wallpaper and come with shower/tub combos, but toiletries are not included. Cleaning supplies are provided since there’s limited housekeeping and towel exchange is available. 

The hotel has a lovely, large outdoor pool that overlooks the beach, as well as a kids' pool and two hot tubs that are surrounded by striped lounge chairs. Additional seating can be found on a wooden deck that’s furnished with patio tables and blue umbrellas. A ping-pong table, two cornhole games, a plastic basketball net, children’s activities, and water aerobics are also at the pool. Other kid-friendly features include a playground for toddlers as well as an arcade room with air hockey, a pool table, pinball machines, shooting and driving games, books, and vending machines.

The resort also has a hair salon with several hair stations, as well as offering nail service, spa treatments, and Aveda products for sale. The small fitness center is equipped with a few cardio machines, weight equipment, free weights, a flat-screen TV, and towels.

The hotel has a meeting room that can accommodate up to 70 people and features large windows facing the ocean that provide a bit of natural light. A projector and screen are mounted in the room. The nearby office has two printers and two PC computers, which have a 30-minute time limit. Self-serve laundry machines are also available, and parking and Wi-Fi are free.
