The Gilded bed-and-breakfast in Newport offers a fun take on the over-the-top, ornateness of the Gilded Era with lacquered surfaces, vibrant colors, and gold accents. Designed by Rachel Reider, the hotel mixes rococo and beaux art designs with a bold color scheme. The hotel is housed in an old Victorian building (a historic property) and maintains original details like winding staircases, sloping ceilings, and original window woodwork. 

Catering to couples and the bed-and-breakfast crowd, Gilded is a cozy option amongst historic Newport mansions on a quiet side street. Gilded is ideal for travelers looking for a memorable place to rest their heads after a day of exploring the many nearby popular tourist attractions. There is a small social scene at the hotel with a BYOB G and Tea on the weekends  --  a gathering in the private courtyard with Gilded Age-inspired ingredients. Guests can also choose to take part in an ongoing scavenger hunt throughout Newport put on by the hotel through social media apps. 

Gilded is somewhat pricy for a bed-and-breakfast, especially during high season. The Inn on Bellevue is a slightly less expensive option, and is also a historic bed-and-breakfast conveniently located to popular tourist attractions. For those looking to be closer to the water, the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina is a modern choice within walking distance of shopping and overlooking the marina. 

On a quiet treelined street among the famous Newport Mansions, Gilded is within easy walking distance to many popular tourist attractions. The hotel is a two-minute walk to the Hotel Viking, which hosts the Top of Newport, the highest rooftop bar and restaurant in Newport with spectacular views. It's a 12-minute walk to the Shops at Long Wharf. Easton’s Beach is an eight-minute drive and a 20-minute walk from the hotel. The famous Cliff Walk, a three-and-a-half-mile path bordering the ocean and many historic mansions, is a six-minute drive and 17-minute walk from Gilded.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame is a seven-minute walk from the hotel. The Naval War College Museum on Coasters Harbor Island is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The Perry Mill Wharf is a 13-minute walk from Gilded, and is the start to plenty of shopping, marina front restaurants, and piers. The Naval Station Newport and the Newport Airport are a 15-minute drive from the hotel. For those looking to explore the city of Newport, a car is not necessary and parking throughout the city can be tough during high season (though there is free on-site parking at the hotel). 

Playing on the eye-catching adornment typical of the Gilded Age, room decor provides an over-the-top and funky vibe. Rooms come with queen-size or king-size beds, and feature ornate gold mirrors and chandeliers, gray shag rugs, and vibrant colors. Expect to see everything from peacock wallpaper to purple velvet headboards while staying at the Gilded. Rooms range in size; there are some spacious two-room suites, but other rooms are tiny with limited walking space. 

Housed in a historic Victorian home, there are a few original details in the rooms including some original woodwork and sloped ceilings. Modern amenities keep things firmly in this century: Apple TVs, USB charging ports, and free Wi-Fi. iPads are given to guests to use during their stay at check-in, and are preprogrammed with local attractions and information. Luxury linens and waffle kimono robes are provided in all the rooms.

Bathrooms tend to be on the smaller side and come with standing showers, hairdryers, and Lather toiletries.  

Note that some guests have complained about noise heard between the rooms. 

As a small boutique bed-and-breakfast, Gilded has a limited list of amenities, but what's on offer is better than average. A free breakfast of curated small plates (similar to tapas) is served daily. Guests can expect sweet and savory home cooked dishes every morning alongside Dave’s Famous Coffee. There's a lovely cafe where guests tend to take their breakfast in the mornings, but can be used throughout the day. Homemade cookies and snacks are placed out every afternoon by the front desk. 

Situated in the back of the hotel, a swanky billiards room is a popular place to gather. The billiards rooms is decorated with book wallpaper and empty bourbon bottles to create a faux library. There's also a spacious, funky lounge for guests to hang out and socialize in. The lounge has a few books on offer and a couple eclectic couches for lounging. A private courtyard is located in the center of the hotel and has a small, lovely garden and some tables and chairs. 

Free concierge services are available at the front desk, and guests are also given iPads pre-programmed with important local attractions and information at check-in to use during their. A small parking lot is located in the back of the hotel which guests can use for free, and there is some street parking as well. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. 

The sister hotel, The Attwater, is a five-minute walk from Gilded, and guests can use the tiny fitness center and spa services.
