The entrance to the Hotel Royal Saint Germain is tucked between two store fronts on a busy street. The picturesque exterior of the 17th-century building is filled with flower boxes hanging from Juliet balconies. Inside, the former private mansion has an elegant feel, and though there isn’t much of a lobby (the crimson front desk is almost hidden beneath a stairway), there's a lovely lounge filled with eclectic furnishings and black-and-gold patterned wallpaper. The living room-like space features antique pieces, framed artwork, a vibrant oriental rug, and flower boxes in the large windows. A blue fabric couch and chairs clustered around wooden tables offer places for guests to sit and enjoy a drink, while a pitcher of water and bowl of scones are thoughtful touches. The hallways are less appealing with dated carpeting, and the elevator is quite small.

Hotel Royal Saint Germain is located on Rue de Rennes, a lively street with plenty of shopping in the 6th arrondissement near the Saint-Germain-de-Pres area known for its cafes and bars. The Luxembourg Gardens are around a 10-minute walk away, and there are lots of restaurants in the area. There are several metro stops nearby, putting both the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre within a 30-minute ride on public transportation. Charles de Gaulle Airport is about an hour away.

Rooms at the hotel are small, but tastefully appointed with charming decor that includes floral wallpaper and matching curtains or bedspreads, as well as wooden Queen Anne style desks and nightstands. Some rooms have slanted walls, which cut down on space a bit. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are modern, though small, with basin sinks atop granite vanities and either walk-in rainfall showers or shower/tub combinations.

The hotel has a lovely lounge area where guests can enjoy coffee or a drink (ordered from reception). A continental breakfast is provided, which is included in room rates when booked through the hotel, but not necessarily in rates from third party sites. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and laptops are available to borrow. A meeting room is available for private events accommodating up to 10 guests. Parking is available (for a fee) at an adjoining parking lot.
