Bottom Line

This 50-room, upper-middle-range hotel has a quaint French charm. Well-located in the heart of the Marais district, but set on a peaceful street, it’s a good base for exploring the city. The guest rooms may be showing some wear and tear in places, but they are immaculately clean and have a distinctly Parisian feel. There’s no restaurant (though a paid breakfast buffet gets high marks) or spa at this property, but for travelers looking for a classic French experience, this shouldn’t disappoint.

Oyster Hotel Review

Villa Beaumarchais

Scene

An authentic French ambiance

The hotel is set within a traditional Parisian building. The exterior is a little scruffy, but on entering the lobby, guests get an authentic French feel from Villa Beaumarchais. There’s a decorative stone-tiled floor, checked red and yellow armchairs, and a painted wooden reception desk. It’s quaint and charming, if looking a little tired in places. The color scheme throughout is deep red, navy blue, and yellow. This does add to the character but also means the place feels a little dark. The most impressive area is the breakfast room and bar which has a stunning glass roof, fountains, and exotic trees.

Location

A good base for exploring the city

Located in the Marais, one of the city's oldest and trendiest districts, there’s plenty to do in the local vicinity but the hotel itself is tucked away in the corner of a quiet side street. Just a few minutes’ walk away, there are a range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. Within a minute’s walk are the Metro stations Filles du Calvaire and Saint-Sébastien – Froissart, which can take visitors all over Paris. And a three-minute walk away is the Chemin Vert station which gives direct access to the Opera Garnier and the Madeleine Church. On foot, there’s the Carnavalet Museum less than 500 meters from the hotel, Place des Vosges is just a six-minute walk, and 15-minutes will get guests to the Place de la République or the Bastille.

Rooms

Clean and comfortable, if a little worn

All the guest rooms at Villa Beaumarchais overlook the central patio. They have either a dark blue and yellow or dark red and yellow color scheme. They are immaculately clean and comfortable, but many are showing some signs of wear and tear. Each room features a queen-size bed, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, hairdryer, minibar, safe, air-conditioning, and desk. The Junior Suite is spacious and has a sitting area, and Deluxe rooms have a spa bath. Bathrooms are orange and white tiled, and could use modernizing. The property is well set-up for families. Connecting rooms are available, cribs and infant beds can be provided free of charge, and childcare can be arranged for an additional fee.

Features

A decent breakfast and a small fitness center

For a reasonable charge, the hotel offers an unlimited buffet breakfast. It has a good selection of croissants and pastries, French cheeses, fresh fruit, juices, and plenty of hot food too. Eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausages, and delicious crepes are all freshly prepared. In the evening, the small bar at the side of the breakfast room serves drinks and there are wooden bar stools and some armchairs. There’s also a relaxed lounge area next to the lobby which has a fireplace, and two traditional leather Chesterfield sofas. Books and international newspapers are laid out on low wooden coffee tables. There’s also a computer for guests to use. The hotel has a small fitness center, although there’s no treadmill, and one medium-sized meeting room for business travelers. Free Wi-Fi is available in all guest rooms and public areas, although having to frequently re-connect can be frustrating.
