Pros
- Secluded holiday resort with beautiful private sandy cove
- Located within easy access of Phuket City and the airport
- Largest swimming pool on the island
- Numerous activities and sporting facilities on-site
- Sleek, spacious rooms, all with furnished balconies
- Wide range of eating and drinking options
- Half- and full-board options available
Bottom Line
Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort is a huge, self-contained complex surrounded by lush jungle that looks out over its own sandy beach. The hotel's large size can make it feel a little impersonal, but its scale does mean a vast array of facilities, including an enormous pool and a range of sport facilities. Spacious rooms have been sleekly renovated and many include lovely sea views. All this doesn't come cheap though, and you might also find yourself paying for plenty of extras -- including Wi-Fi -- if you book the room-only rate.

Scene
Huge, beach-front resort complex with upscale summer camp vibe and private bay
A long well-maintained road cuts a swathe through dense jungle and ends at a large, palm-dotted cul-de-sac at the entrance of Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort. A traditional Thai-style portico guides guest into a huge, cathedral-like atrium flooded with sunlight from enormous windows and finished in an earthy palette of wicker furnishings, polished stone, and teak paneling. The property's grandiosity continues through wide, breezy corridors. Its spacious and sprawling grounds contain the largest swimming pool in Phuket and lead to the hotel's private bay on the Andaman Sea. The resort looks a bit like a secluded and upscale summer camp, and while the property is clean and well-maintained, its concrete-heavy landscaping gives it a bit of a dated appearance.
Location
Overlooking a secluded cove, nestled in a jungle on Phuket's southwest coast
The hotel is tucked into lush jungle surroundings off a private road on Phuket's southwestern coast. There's little to explore in the immediate area beyond the hotel's own grounds and private beach, though nearby resort towns include Karon Beach, a 10-minute drive south, and Patong, the same distance to the north. The island's capital, Phuket City, is about 30 minutes away by car, and getting to Phuket International Airport takes about 45 minutes. Flights from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phuket are around an hour and fifteen minutes long.
Rooms
Smart, spacious rooms open to furnished balconies; many have sea views
The resort has 470 rooms in total, which are generally spacious and tastefully finished with snazzy teakwood furnishings and traditional Thai artwork and fabrics. All rooms have large sliding doors that open onto furnished balconies with either sea or garden views. Large flat-screen TVs have cable and a video-on-demand service, and Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Bathrooms are sleek and contemporary, with large walk-in rainfall showers, robes, and slippers.
Features
The island's largest pool and a beautiful private sandy beach
The hotel features two huge swimming pools -- one of which is the largest on the island -- as well as a separate kids' pool and a whirlpool hot tub. Lounge chairs include menus and bells to summon waiters, but can be in short supply during busy periods. The hotel's private beach is arguably one of the prettiest on the island, although it lacks the character and people-watching opportunities common at public Thai beaches. A number of outdoor activities are available, including tennis and squash, mini-golf, and a driving range for hitting balls. There are plenty of activities for children of all ages, and -- as one might expect from a secluded, self-contained holiday resort -- there's a wide range of eating and drinking options on-site, as well as a spa.
