Bottom Line

This 32-room budget hotel is a little isolated from the main Patong area action, and a 15-minute walk to the beach. Suitable for singles, couples, and families, it's a bit no frills, but the rooms are clean and comfortable enough, and the price is the main reason for staying here (though those wishing to be away from the nightlife noise may also appreciate the location). There is generally no free breakfast, but an on-site cafe and nearby convenience store can tide you over. Free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, climate control, and flat-screen TVs are perks. The small rooftop infinity pool with views of downtown Patong is the highlight.

Oyster Hotel Review

Patong Mansion Hotel

Scene

Removed from the action, but still tourist-friendly

A strong choice for budget leisure travelers, this hotel is good for families, couples, and basically anyone watching their vacation dollars. Though the area is quieter than some of the hotels right in the busy heart of Patong, a motorcycle repair/rental shop below the hotel does rev up some unexpected noise; still, the scene here is a little removed from the busy downtown action which makes it a less party-oriented locale.

The exterior is rather nondescript -- a gray building that looks like a standard hotel structure; same goes for the lobby and cafe area, which are small and nothing special with a few tables strewn around and a vibe that is more utilitarian than resort-like. The staff, however, makes a real effort to please and the views from the rooftop pool are beautiful.

Location

Outside of the busy city center, but still accessible to area attractions

Surrounded by many other mid-sized buildings and local businesses, this hotel is a bit off the beaten path. In fact, the entrance to the resort is located down a shady looking alley. However, it is actually quite safe, even after midnight which is a good thing since it's a 10- to -15 minute walk to the nightlife and shopping in downtown Patong. The beach is also about 15 minutes away, as are the Patong Boxing Stadium and the Bangla Boxing Stadium. The good news is that there are tuk-tuks or taxis readily available if you don't want to hoof it, and there is a convenience store within a one-minute walk, which is helpful. It is a good distance to the Phuket airport (about an hour) but the hotel is happy to schedule airport transfers for guests.

Rooms

Simple, good-sized, and clean with decent amenities

There are two types of rooms in this hotel: Superior and Deluxe. The former are smaller and slightly simple, but all are decent-sized and well maintained. Overall the decor is warm, thanks to the yellow or white walls, bronze/brown curtains and dark wood furnishings. Beds are definitely on the firm side, and some of the linens could do with an upgrade, but things are generally clean and the towel sculptures upon arrival are a nice touch.

The bathrooms have good water pressure and hot water, but only showers (no tubs) and some fixtures point towards the toilets which can make a bit of a mess on the bathroom floors. Fortunately hairdryers are available for use (either for your hair or to dry the floor). The toiletries are cheap and stored in wall-mounted dispensers...you might want to pack your own.

Modern amenities like mini-fridges, free bottled water, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, excellent climate controls, and free in-room Wi-Fi help guests feel comfortable.

While some of the rooms have lovely views overlooking the city (with balconies that bizarrely have full sinks on them), others look directly into people's apartments or onto dirty rooftops, so be aware that you might be taking in more local culture than expected. Unsurprisingly, higher rooms are quieter but no matter what floor you end up on, the interior walls are a tad thin.

Features

Rooftop pool, on-site cafe, in-room massages, and scooter rentals

The beautiful infinity pool on the top of the hotel is small but offers expansive city views framed by interesting sculptures, making it a highlight of this property; swimmers can even sometimes see fireworks in the distance over Patong Beach.

While there is typically no free breakfast (though it is included in some reservations, so be sure to ask), an adequate daily buffet is served in the on-site cafe. A spa is also missing here, but in-room Thai massages can be arranged through the 24-hour front desk (which will also help book area tours).

There are scooter rentals available right outside the hotel, as well, which is useful since it's quite a distance to area attractions; however, be forewarned that in order to rent you will be required to surrender your passport (so if you're uncomfortable with that, you may wish to find another mode of transportation or a shop that doesn't require your entry/exit papers as collateral for a bike). Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
