Clean, mid-range, and modern, this is the newest of three Hemingway hotels in Patong and it's a great value for the discounted price. Located in the entertainment district, it's a little farther away from the beach than other hotels in Patong (about 15 minutes), but still convenient to most area attractions, including the Bangla Night Market and Junceylon. The rooms are not huge, but they're well laid-out and clean with terrific amenities such as flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, stocked minibars, and umbrellas in case it rains. There's a small but inviting rooftop pool with a few sun loungers and a poolside bar. The on-site restaurant is also a good deal, and room service is available. 

The 20-room Palmview Resort is more of small and friendly budget hotel than a resort, set away from Patong's beach and town center. The location on a busy street over a mile from the beach is not ideal, but rooms are spacious and clean, with good amenities for longer-stay guests. Air-conditioned rooms are spacious and extend to basic but well-maintained bathrooms, while all rooms have sliding doors opening to furnished balconies. Wi-Fi is free of charge but old flat-panel TVs have limited channels.

This 32-room budget hotel is a little isolated from the main Patong area action, and a 15-minute walk to the beach. Suitable for singles, couples, and families, it's a bit no frills, but the rooms are clean and comfortable enough, and the price is the main reason for staying here (though those wishing to be away from the nightlife noise may also appreciate the location). There is generally no free breakfast, but an on-site cafe and nearby convenience store can tide you over. Free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, climate control, and flat-screen TVs are perks. The small rooftop infinity pool with views of downtown Patong is the highlight.

The name is telling at the mid-range Simplitel Hotel -- this property keeps things simple. Though it offers few features, the 60-room hotel is a good option for travelers seeking a clean, modern setting and a convenient location. The hotel is about a five-minute walk from the beach and about a 10-minute drive or taxi ride from Patong center. Guest rooms are airy and bright, with flat-screen TVs and private balconies overlooking the mountains or city. There is an on-site restaurant serving free breakfast, as well as Thai and European fare for lunch and dinner. As with the rest of the property, the fitness center is clean and bright, with a nice selection of machines. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, along with free parking in the hotel's underground garage.

The 105-room Kantary Bay hotel is set in lush tropical gardens near the southern tip of Phuket. The peaceful rooftop pool provides excellent views and has a phone to call for food and drink orders -- there is also a big, main pool with lounge chairs and umbrellas. All rooms are apartments and are pleasant and clean with more than adequate self-catering facilities and balconies. The location can feel a little out of the way, but the reasonable rates for a three-and-a-half-pearl hotel reflect this. Access to five-star facilities in the nearby sister hotel also make it even better value for money.

The 31-room Friendship Beach Resort and Spa is a holistic retreat offering spa services, dexox cleanses, and fitness programs at the Atmanjai Wellness Spa. The restaurant and bar serves Thai and Western fare made with natural ingredients, with raw, vegan, and vegetarian options available. There's also a seaside pool and a cross-training fitness center with a yoga studio at the resort. The bungalow-style rooms have flat-screen TVs and beach terraces; suites include kitchens and living rooms. It's a terrific option for the price, but the location may be too remote for some and the beach isn't one of Phuket's best.

The 35-room mid-range Sun Hill Hotel is a pleasant, tidy, family-owned and operated property built into a wooded hillside in one of the seedier areas of Patong that's a 15-minute walk to the town center. The hotel is pretty and clean, with an airy restaurant and small pool. Rooms are spacious and cheerful, with furnished private balconies; some have kitchenettes. 

CC's Hideaway is an upscale boutique hotel with a hip and colorful vibe set on a peaceful hilltop overlooking the Phuket resorts of Kata and Karon. Being positioned far from the beach can feel isolating, but that gives the hotel a particularly secluded and tranquil ambiance -- perfect for its rooftop yoga or meditation classes. Some rooms benefit from superb sea and sunset views while -- unusual for the area -- its pool is open into the evening. All in all, the location won't appeal to everyone, but CC's is nonetheless an intimate retreat away from the crowds with relatively affordable rates.

The three-pearl Pen Villa Hotel is a family-run hotel with 15 rooms. It has the feel of a guesthouse, and offers excellent home-cooked food and personal attention from the owners. Located on the slopes of Surin Hill, in a quiet area surrounded by luxury vacation homes, the atmosphere is quiet. While the property is older, it's immaculately kept; rooms are huge and bright, with enormous balconies or terraces -- but bathrooms feel dated, and TVs are of the older flat-panel variety.

The five-pearl Pullman Phuket Arcadia Resort is alone in its class in this part of Phuket. Accessed via a single, windy road that also leads to Naithon Beach and a national park, the hotel is far from any other properties. The Pullman is about a 10-minute drive from Phuket International Airport, but it takes at least 45 minutes to get to the tourist activities in Phuket Town. Both families and couples adore this hotel for its gorgeous design details, extra-comfortable rooms, and infinity-edge pool overlooking the Andaman Sea. There are six on-site bars and restaurants, a luxe spa, and a fun kids' club. The natural beach is stunning, but the water can get a little rough at certain times of the year, and steep steps to the beach may be difficult for little ones to traverse. Staff is available to drive guests around the resort in small buggies. Rates are generally low for all this luxury, and include Wi-Fi and airport transfers. 

The 246-room beachfront Holiday Inn Resort Phuket Mai Khao sits on Thailand’s sparkling Andaman Sea, and its breezy, modern design embraces the jungle setting at every turn. In an area of Phuket filled with plenty of expensive hotels, this upscale resort is a great value with plenty of opportunities to relax or stay active, including two on-site restaurants, a large infinity pool, fitness classes, live entertainment, and, of course, the beach. Families are especially welcome here, with special Kid Suites and plenty of options to keep kids busy, though guests looking for the wild nightlife of Patong Beach will want to look elsewhere.
