The Sunset Beach Resort delivers a no-frills beachfront vacation at a reasonable price. A street -- with overhanging power lines -- separates the four-floor resort from the beach shore. The modest entrance has a lovely tropical mountain backdrop. Terracotta floor tiles line the open-air lobby that has ceiling fans, a small front desk, and comfy chairs, overlooking the tropical landscape. Hallways -- some of which are open-air -- have terracotta tiles and windows that offer views of the neighboring residences.

Palm trees provide a bit of shade at the lovely blue-tiled lagoon pool, which has a charming bridge and swim-up bar near a rock waterfall. There’s also a hot tub, a kids' pool and deck with plastic lounge chairs, and umbrellas. A rock formation bar is also on the pool deck. The spa has two casually designed treatment rooms and a whirlpool tub, and a menu of treatments, including warm stone massage and deep tissue massage. There’s also a small fitness center with cardio equipment, weights, and a flat-screen TV. The kids’ club has a playroom with an old-style TV and four PC computers.

The resort is located in North Patong, across the street from Kalim Beach. A free shuttle goes every 30 minutes to Patong Beach, which is a five-minute drive. Phuket night life is about 20 minutes away. There are restaurants and markets within five minutes' walking distance of the hotel. The Junceylon shopping center is about a seven-minute drive, and the airport is about a 40-minute drive.   

There are Superior and Deluxe Rooms, Sunset Studios, and Junior Suites. All rooms come with bottled water, minibars, safes, tube TVs, or flat-screens TVs. Light-wood furniture, white floor tiles or parquet floors, and bamboo lamps make up the room decor. Balconies and terraces have gardens, with pool or sea views. Green-tiled bathrooms with wood touches have shower/tub combos. Sunset Studios come with kitchenettes, and Junior Suites have separate living and dining areas, sofa beds, and kitchenettes with stovetops, refrigerators, and sinks. Guests have complained about cleanliness, and rooms facing the sea may get street noise and views of power lines.

The resort’s Sea ‘N Sun Bar and Restaurant is furnished with rattan furniture, ceiling fans, and has a stage for live entertainment. There’s a terrace in front of the resort, facing the sea, with more patio seating and a bar built around palm trees. A large pool and adjacent kids' pool are popular hangout spots. Adults will appreciate the on-site spa and modern fitness center. There's a billiard room with two tables, a business center, and a large meeting room with a projector screen and other audiovisual equipment. Freebies include parking, breakfast, Wi-Fi, and a regular shuttle to the beach.
