Bottom Line

One Playa del Carmen, part of the budget chain One Hotels, is a modern no-frills property that delivers solid value. Located within a shopping center behind the alternative ADO bus station, it's a five-minute walk to the restaurants, bars, and nightlife along Avenida Quinta, and a 10- to 15-minute walk to the beach. The 108 rooms of this smoke-free property are small with little storage space, but they're immaculately clean and include air-conditioning and mounted flat-screen TVs. A breakfast buffet of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, toast, eggs, and chilaquiles is included in the rates. The hotel also has an outdoor terrace where guests can kick back, a modest business center (two computers and a printer), a meeting room, a free self-service laundry, and free Wi-Fi throughout. Travelers could compare rates with the Riviera Maya Suites or the Magic Blue Hotel

Oyster Hotel Review

One Playa Del Carmen

Scene

Small, modern, well-maintained chain hotel off the main drag

Modern and colorful, One Playa del Carmen opened in 2010. Its blue-and-white blocky exterior gives way to a bright, open lobby, with lots of windows and orange couches where guests can gather. The breakfast room, with its white tables and chairs, keeps coffee, tea, and water on hand all day, and small snacks are available at the reception desk. There's also an outdoor terrace with tables and chairs. The clientele is mainly families, couples, and groups of friends traveling together, many of them from Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Walmart is about a two-minute walk south of the hotel, and Super Aki, another major market, is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Cancun International Airport is a 45-minute drive away.

Modern, bright, and functional with AC and flat-screen TVs

The 108 rooms at the One Playa del Carmen are minimally furnished, but they're bright and pleasant, with white walls, dark-gray ceramic tile floors, built-in wooden desks and headboards, and abstract paintings opposite the beds.
