Bottom Line

The 95-room Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa is an upscale property on Sabang Beach. Contemporary rooms feature wooden details, and all have balconies or patios, many of which overlook the beach or pool. The hotel appeals to families and couples alike, with sports facilities, a beach bar, and a full-service spa. The sprawling pool is a hub of activity, featuring a swim-up bar, hot tubs, and a kiddy pool. The restaurant offers beachfront dining and uses ingredients sourced from the resort's organic farm. However, the area is remote and Wi-Fi is spotty. There aren't a ton of options in the area, but travelers may want to compare amenities at the more affordable Daluyon Beach and Mountain Resort.

Scene

Upscale colonial-style hotel on a sprawling property with direct beach access

The Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa is an upscale property with spacious grounds that attracts vacationing couples and families alike. Paved and gravel pathways weave through the tropically landscaped grounds, which house the resort's two-story, colonial-style buildings with shingle rooftops and open-air hallways. The lobby has a grand, modern look, featuring vaulted wooden ceilings, a limestone pillar at the center, and cushioned wicker seating. The wide beach is uncrowded, ideal for travelers seeking a quiet oceanfront vacation. The waters, however, are often too rough for swimming and beach flags are often posted on the sand warning guests of hazardous currents. For this reason, most guests keep occupied by the on-site pools, sports facilities, and dining options

Location

On a quiet beach, with easy access to boat trips on the Underground River

Sabang Beach is quiet and only occupied by a few other hotels, so guests of the Sheridan Beach Resort can expect some degree of privacy on the sands. Set next to mountains, this location is ideal for travelers who want be within walking distance to the Sabang X Zipline and the Sabang Boat Terminal, which is a 15-minute boat trip to the Underground River. There are shops and souvenir stands at the terminal, and a few restaurants and bars are within walking distance of the hotel. It’s a winding one-hour drive -- which can induce motion sickness in some guests -- to the city center of Puerto Princesa. The hotel can arrange shuttle transfers (for a fee) to the Puerto Princesa International Airport, which is an hour and 45 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms and suites with warm wooden designs, some with beach views

Contemporary rooms have a warm ambience thanks to wood-panel accents, recessed lighting, and earth-tone color palettes. Every room has a patio or a balcony, though views vary and only suites overlook the ocean. Suites feature tall upholstered headboards, dark wood floors, and decorative touches, in addition to sitting areas. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, DVD players, free Wi-Fi, and bathrobes, as well as minibars, safes, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Umbrellas are also provided for rainy days. Modern bathrooms have walk-in glass showers, basic toiletries, and hairdryers. Bathrooms in suites are sleek, with wooden pillars and pebbles surrounding shower/tub combos. Note that some rooms are located by generators and can be noisy.

Features

Beach access, an outdoor pool, on-site dining and bars, and spa treatments

The Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa sits on a sprawling stretch of sand, but sometimes the water can be too choppy for safe swimming. Fortunately, there's a huge outdoor pool near the beach with lounge chairs partially submerged in the shallow section. There are also three round hot tubs, a kids' pool, and a rock swim-up bar. Cocktails are also served in the Blue Bar, which has beachfront seating. South Sea Restaurant has ocean-view patio and live music at night, plus occasional karaoke; it serves local and international fare, including food from the hotel's organic farm. Breakfast is included in room rates, but it gets mixed reviews. The Sports Bar has flat-screen TVs and a covered terrace with beer pong, ping-pong, and billiard tables. The Coco Bar is directly on the beach, and it has a few private decks with pillows. Coffee and pastries are available in the Lobby Lounge, where there are also a computer, loaner DVDs, and a gift stand.

Numerous activities are offered on-site, including paddleboat mangrove tours, ATV rides, mountain biking, kayaking, snorkeling, and Segway excursions. Guests can also tour the Sheridan’s farm.

The Spa Village has a long list of services, including massages, facials, and nail treatments. An open-air pavilion provides fitness equipment. Five indoor meeting rooms, including the Convention Hall for up to 450 people, are available for gatherings. There are also outdoor spaces on the beach and in the gardens for rent. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort, but service is often spotty in rooms.
