The Lindos Mare is set on a rocky cliff face, overlooking the white sand and turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea from every arch, window, balcony, and patio. The lobby is open and airy, with high ceilings and lots of white marble and cherry wood. Touches of lemon yellow, orange, periwinkle blue, and deep violet add whimsy and character to the different seating areas. The TV alcove is done in white with elegant but comfortable dove grey couches, filmy curtains, and a light blue ceiling with tiny star spotlights. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and a touch more refined than other local hotels.

The Lindos Mare is located high on a hill overlooking the Aegean, with a private beach several stories below, reached via elevator and cable car. The historic village of Lindos is five to 10 minutes away by taxi; it is walkable, but the road to the village has no shoulder and is not pedestrian friendly. The town of Rhodes and the airport are 30 miles away. There is no public transportation to the island tourist attractions, but free parking is available for guests with cars.

Rooms at the Lindos Mare have a relaxed elegance and offer spectacular views from the large balconies. The sea view is worth the extra fee. Double Rooms are decorated in shades of lavender and fresh light green, with light wood furnishings and filmy curtains. Bathrooms are modern and spotless, with picture windows opening into the bedroom. Superior rooms are white with light blue accents, sexy enclosed verandahs, and the Aegean Sea for artwork. Rooms are soundproofed and offer all the amenities, although some have old school TVs, not flat-screens.

The Lindos Mare has two gorgeous pools with ample sun loungers and beach umbrellas, plus a children's pool -- no fight for space here. On the private beach, a variety of water sports are offered (extra fee), including banana boating, water skiing, and canoeing. The spacious fitness center has cardio machines, weights, and room for yoga. The spa offers body and beauty treatments, sauna, and a steam room. There is a playground and, in July and August, a kids' club. Evening entertainment (in season) includes live music, belly dancing, and Greek night. There is a jewelry shop for souvenirs and a minimart for necessities.

The pool faces the sea, and Meltemi, the pool bar and restaurant, serves lunch cooked in a traditional wood-burning oven. Estia serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner in a festive, friendly atmosphere. Pelagos, the hotel's third restaurant, serves lunch and dinner as guests enjoy the view through beautiful arched windows to the pool, sea, and lush green gardens beyond. Half-board rates are available, but all rates include at least free parking, Internet, and breakfast.
