Bottom Line

The mid-range Best Western Globus Hotel has 103 rooms spread over six floors. Near the Policinico Umberto Primo Hospital and Sapienza University of Rome, the building itself is about 60 years old, while the hotel has been here for about 10 years. Inside, there are a small lobby and reception area, two meeting rooms, and a restaurant with a bar. Rooms are  similar in design and style -- meaning they're simple, functional, bright, and minimalist. The hotel's proximity to a major hospital means sirens can be heard throughout the day and night. For a quieter stay and a location closer to the city center and the Vatican, the Best Western Spring House Hotel might be a better, albeit pricier, alternative.

Oyster Hotel Review

Best Western Globus Hotel

Scene

Brightly lit space with a few fun unexpected delights in some areas

Unlike most of the other buildings in the area, the hotel is housed in a modern red-brick building. Inside, a reception area is wrapped in classic green wooden paneling, which adds a touch of elegance to the space. There is a small sitting area with plush leather armchairs, and a fun spiral walkway with numbered tiles that resembles the children’s game of hopscotch. To the side, a selection of pastries with tea and coffee are offered to guests. In the restaurant, The Game, the benches along the walls are lined with cushions decorated like traditional dice showing all six different sides. Overall, the public areas are simple, organized, and clean.

Location

Close to the San Lorenzo District and multiple modes of public transportation

The hotel is not exactly in the city center, and because of its location next to a large hospital, the area can become busy and noisy.

About a five-minute walk from the Best Western Globus is San Lorenzo, a historic district  that has plenty of pizzerias, trattorias serving local cuisine, pubs, and shops, many of them catering to the  massive student population at Sapienza. While not a typical tourist destination, San Lorenzo is best for experiencing local culture, capturing local street art, and tracking down flea markets.

Such top sights as Vatican City, which includes St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican museums, and and the Vatican Gardens, and the Colosseum are within a 30-minute taxi ride. For Renaissance and Baroque art, the Galleria Borghese is a 30-minute walk from the hotel, and San Luigi dei Francesi, another example of Renaissance art, is another 30-minute  walk from Galleria Borghese.
