The Hotel Centrale is set in a charming and historic former private home, which was built in the 18th century. Much of the original details and features remain, such as colorful stained-glass windows, decorative tiled floors, and marble paneling on the walls. It’s a relatively small and charming property -- and the bright colors in the common areas do a lot to make the traditional style something special. The lobby has a few comfortable armchairs, a wooden reception desk, and some large potted plants. An antique coffee table displays a selection of tourist information leaflets. The hallways are lined more antique furniture, and paintings on the walls of the local area -- unfortunately this level of detail doesn't carry over to the guest rooms. Still, the hotel is popular with tourists from around the world, mainly couples of all ages, who are drawn by the history of the property and the location in the center of the city. 

Set on Via Laurina, a narrow and cobblestoned side street in Rome's historic center, many of the city's top attractions are within walking distance of this hotel. The Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna are both just five-minutes on foot, while the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain are a 15-minute walk from the hotel. There are also some stunning churches in the neighborhood, including All Saints Church and Chiesa di Gesu e Maria -- both just one minute away on foot. There are lots of restaurants in the area as well, including fine dining at Casina Valadier, well-known for its panoramic city views from the rooftop terrace, which is a 10–minute walk from the hotel. Authentic gelato, espresso, and pizza are all available within steps of the property too. This is a great part of the city for shopping, and the surrounding streets are filled with stores ranging from international chains like H&M to independent boutiques. Both the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport and Ciampino Airports are a 40-minute drive away.

The hotel has 21 guest rooms. Some are on the small side, and they are fairly basic in terms of decor, with an austere, if well-kept, traditional look. Guests can expect to see simple, classic furnishings like mid-tone wood-veneer furniture, and soft peach and neutral-hue walls. Reproductions of landscape paintings hang on the walls, though they are small and do little to add much character. Most surfaces are done with travertine marble, which ups the class here just a bit, though on the whole the aesthetic is humble.

Rooms are available as Single, Double, Triple, and Superior Double/Twin. Families and groups can request interconnecting rooms. There is also a Junior Suite, which has a stunning, flower-filled private terrace. It also has a hot tub and a fireplace. Two of the other guest rooms also have access to a shared, furnished terrace, so it's worth checking ahead with the hotel. 

Every room has air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, desk, safe, and small flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Bathrooms vary greatly in size but all have clean white tiling on the walls, though some of the floor tiles and grout could use an overhaul. Some bathrooms include a shower/tub combo, while others just have a shower cubicle. Toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.

The Hotel Centrale provides a free continental breakfast with a good selection of fresh fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, pastries, and cereals. This is served in the quaint breakfast room which has a sunny yellow color scheme, a large chandelier in the center of the ceiling, a decorative tiled floor, and wooden tables and chairs with crisp white tablecloths. There is also a small bar in the room where a range of drinks are available. The hotel has a small but charming reading room with comfortable sofas and attractive details like an antique candelabra and vases of fresh flowers on the side tables. It also has a computer station which guests are welcome to use at any time. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the property.
