This hotel is housed in a handsome former palace that's situated on a cobblestone street -- to say that the view from the pavement is very Rome would be putting it lightly. Unfortunately, the interiors don't come close to matching that elegant first impression. The lobby is quite small and narrow, with just the reception desk and a beat-up green leather sofa. It's not a place for hanging out -- in fact the hotel in general is really only to be used as a place to crash at night. However, the breakfast room also doubles as a bar for travelers who need some space beyond their rooms. With its excellent location and reasonable rates, this property draws all sorts of tourists and even the occasional businessperson. 

This hotel is centrally located along Piazza del Viminale, in front of the Viminale Palace, which contains the Ministry of the Interior. The area around the hotel is the historic city center of Rome, putting the property close to shopping, restaurants, bars, and major attractions. Via Cavour, a popular retail-packed street, is a seven-minute walk from the hotel. Guests can walk to the iconic Trevi Fountain or the Colosseum in 15 minutes (in opposite directions). Piazza di Spagna, which holds the famed Spanish Steps, is 17 minutes away on foot. For getting to sights farther afield, the Repubblica Metro station is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and Termini Station is a 10-minute walk away. Parking in this area is complicated, but the hotel has partnered with a nearby garage for guest parking (fee). Plan on a 40- to 50-minute drive to reach the main airport, Fiumicino, or 45 minutes by public transportation. 

Rooms are brightly lit, but rather dated and tired, with old bedspreads, marble tile flooring, striped wallpaper on the bottom half of the walls, and carved wall hangings. Many of the rooms are decked out primarily in green, with various shades of the hue found everywhere from the bedspreads and headboards to the upholstery, wallpaper, and furniture. Even for fans of green, it may be too much, as the shades aren't exactly complementary. Some rooms have small balconies with nice views of the square. Flat-screen TVs hang on the walls. Other amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, desks, safes, and mini-fridges by request. Compact white bathrooms offer small, wall-hung sinks, tiny tiled showers, hairdryers, and toiletries. Triple Rooms are available for families. 

This hotel doesn't offer much in the way of features. A breakfast buffet is served each morning in a cozy room that doubles as a bar. Breakfast selections include cereals, yogurt, fruits, meats, breads, and pastries, and it's included in some bookings. Room service is available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Parking is not available on-site, but the hotel has an arrangement with a nearby garage for guest parking (fee). Airport transfers are available for a fee.
